New York Fashion Week: Carolina Herrera Hates Interviews, Owes Her Career To Diana Vreeland (VIDEO)

When one thinks of Carolina Herrera's ladylike designs, one word typically comes to mind: classic. The 73-year-old Venezuelan may be best known for her tailored separates, smart sheath dresses and signature crisp white button-downs, but lately Herrera has had much more of a pop culture presence. She designed Bella Swan's wedding gown in the latest Twilight film and one very eccentric rapper sat front row at her most recent runway show.
Today, Herrera's timeless creations resonate with celebrities like Renee Zellweger, Jessica Alba and Sofia Vergara -- but if it weren't for one Vogue editor, Herrera would be designing fabrics. In the video above, Herrera recalls the moment she told Diana Vreeland that she wanted to become a fabric designer. Vreeland's response was, "Oh my dear, how boring that is. You can't! You have do something else. Why don't you try to have a collection from daytime to evening, which you will like much better?"
All we have to say is: Thank you, Diana Vreeland!
Watch the video to learn why Herrera hates interviews and how the thought of retiring makes her laugh.
