Inside Neko Case's 1787 Vermont Farmhouse

HuffPost Social Reading

When we got an exclusive first look at Country Living's March 2012 issue, we were especially taken by indie musician Neko Case's 1787 Vermont farmhouse.

The Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter transformed her family's historic farmhouse into a home that reflects the perfect blend of modern and vintage style. Though Neko completely gutted the kitchen, except for the late-1970s beams, she still showcases retro style with white marble countertops, bold red tile bordering and a '50s refurbished stove. Walk pass her record collection, deep-hued wall and eccentric seating, and you'll sense a subtle nod to her rock 'n' roll influences. Enter her serene-chic bedroom, and find comfort in a large, plump tufted headboard surrounded by matching woodsy wallpaper. The end result is what Neko describes as "a combination of science classroom, hunting lodge and Art Nouveau battleship." Why does this appeal to us? Well, we think her design method is something everyone should consider -- mixing and matching what's important to you, regardless of era.

Flip through the slideshow below to peek inside Neko's amazing home. And, to see a full tour of Neko's farmhouse and for innovative DIY ideas, ways to decorate around collectibles, and other design inspiration, pick up the latest issue of Country Living, out today.

Indie musician Neko Case gets creative in the kitchen, usually composing music on an old piano found in a fraternity house. The custom-made red tile, called "Neko Red," bordering the wall was actually named after the musician by company Pratt & Larson.

This is gorgeous. I want to move a piano into my kitchen now. ( However, we'd have to eat on the roof.) Love the beams. Nothing but wow, here!
