Ayaka Nishi: Studio Visit With The Anatomy-Inspired Jewelry Designer (PHOTOS)

Written by Stylelist Blogger Network member Jessica Hoppe of Having It All:
Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel once said, "I always take off at least one piece of jewelry before I leave the house…to ensure that I am not 'overdoing' it." And while I believe Ms. Chanel to be an absolute goddess, I tend to head in the opposite direction when it comes to accessories. Plus, after visiting the studio of one of my favorite jewelry designers, my addiction has only worsened.
The first time I saw an Ayaka Nishi design was in Elle Magazine two years ago. It was her signature spine bracelet. While anatomy-inspired jewelry is on-trend this season, I could tell back then by the craftsmanship that this was an investment piece.
Ayaka, the daughter of a surgeon and Ikebana artist, draws inspiration from the human body and nature. Her studio is a precious metal wonderland of plants, insects and fossils. I couldn't resist mixing metals and stacking away -- surely to Ms. Chanel's horror had she been alive to see it. And with Ayaka's studio on the same block as my apartment, there's no telling what levels these arm parties could reach.
