High Cheekbones: How To Fake A More Sculpted Look (VIDEO)

HuffPost Social Reading

Most of us weren't blessed with sky-high, sculpted cheekbones a la Faye Dunaway, Katharine Hepburn or Cameron Diaz, but that doesn't mean we're doomed. Faking a more hollowed-out, chiseled look is super easy, and requires very little: Just a few strategic dabs of concealer actually. It can instantly transform your face—but in that subtle, you-were-born-with-amazing-bone-structure way.

We've enlisted makeup artist Annamarie Tendler to show us how to get the look in the video above. Then click through the gallery below for high cheekbone inspiration.

Meanwhile, this easy blush tip makes a big difference.

Surprised Betty Buckley (from the 1977-1981 ABC dramedy Eight is Enough) isn't mentioned in the gallery.

On film at least, Marlene Dietrich had perfect cheekbones. Of course lighting and good make-up helped, yet when she appeared as a guest interviewed and much older on a TV show, her cheekbones were flawless too. She had a trick she used to make her nose on film look straight too because her nose was more rounded where the nostrils are, and slightly bulbous. She would draw a white or silver line right down the middle of her nose and if you watch carefully, you can see it in some of her films, especially those in HD or on Blu-Ray.

All of the forties and fifties actresses are foxes, back then they had real beauty, not like today, everybody is airbrushed.

They had makeup in the 40's and 50's, love. A lot of their "real" beauty is good contouring, which is fairly easy to do. However, women on the silver screen had a better sense of class, which can't be painted on.

Cameron Diaz gets uglier as she gets older. I never truly thought of her as a true beauty.

Couldn't you find one woman of color. I think Angela Bassett would have fit the bill perfectly.

"And when you're done, you'll have two stripes on the side of your face." Whee. Thanks for that tip.

I think that Katharine Hepburn and Gates McFadden look a lot alike in the above photo.

Let's see... Mom went to beauty school... and she taught me just to use my blush... but then again I have natural high cheek bones...and don't need to fake them... plus... I rarely wear makeup.

Cameron Diaz ( moon face ) does not have high cheek bones. She has a squatty duck face and bad skin.

The technique is a basic duh, however..............the model was left with unblended fingerprint stripes of highlighter and concealer. Yes, dot it on but use a foundation brush to blend, soften and blur the edges. Then using a fluffy brush and a circular motion, lightly swirl blush on the apples of your cheeks, your temples and the middle of your chin. It's the blur of the 3 products and strategically placed color that gives the illusion of being born with beautifully sculpted high cheekbones.

What totally ticks me off about demos like this is the before and after pics are never with the exact positioning or lighting. Meaning, the before pic is usually straight face on, like above, and the after pic her face is turned to the side somewhat. So it makes it SO NOT a real before and after. They do that with every demo. Usually the before pic there's no lighting and the person isn't smiling, and the after pic they're smiling brightly and their heads tilted to one side or the other... ugh!

Sad, even the really pretty ones are not happy with who they are. Women are their own worst enemies.

Well, they fake every thing else, so why not?

I've been a makeup artist for 35 years...bacteria bacteria! You don't put your hands all over someone's face to apply makeup...only on yourself! That's why we have sponges and applicators...Make-up 101

It looks so fake. That dark brown concealer is so not that model's color
