IKEA Furnishings Sold On Amazon?

Clearly, we take extra effort to stay on top of everything that's IKEA -- whether it means sifting through all their products to find the best pieces that are available for purchase through ikea.com or investigating the reason for the extremely high shipping costs. Here's something that puts all of IKEA's online retail ventures into question once again: IKEA furnishings are being sold on Amazon.com, and shipping and handling fees are significantly less.

It's true. IKEA's Amazon presence quietly slipped under most people's radar (even ours) until now. And one quick search on Amazon pulled up a selection of IKEA chairs, coffee tables, bookshelves, desks, lamps and organizing units that are available for direct purchase. This certainly makes shopping for IKEA items online more convenient, especially for those of us who might not live anywhere near one or live in cities and don't have cars. And even though the prices on Amazon are slightly marked up, the selection seems to be growing and, most importantly, shipping prices are much lower than those incurred at ikea.com. So, we're asking you: Amazon or ikea.com?

IKEA is like the 'LEGO' of furniture. They have it down to a science.

That would be..Amazon. Their Amazon Prime program is the best deal around. I love Amazon. If I am shopping for an item....I always check Amazon because they have the best product info and they have customer reviews..and often have the best price...especailly using Amazon prime shipping.

I have found Ikea stuff on Amazon many times in the past when I was looking for bookshelves, corner stands, end tables etc.

Their furniture is built to be functional. My daughter bought a decent, good quality cabinet for her flat screen that actually hides all those unsightly cords! Her platform bed is great with four large drawers under both sides (two per side). Our home is old with one tiny closet in each small bedroom, so this furniture works great for her. The wardrobe she bought holds a lot and yet doesn't take up that much room and is attractive.

Great for people who don't live near an IKEA. For me, I want to see their stuff before I buy. Glad there's an IKEA down the street.

Eh I dunno -- Crazy Crazy markup. The prices on Amazon are much higher than the store.

Yeah! I love Ikea and have only been able to shop when I visit family in Houston, Texas, Now I can just shop from home. I have never had any problem with anything I have ever bought from Ikea and would shop there often if they put a store in Southern Nevada. hint hint

Should be no issue with Ikea using Amazon. They've got really good logistics. Ike's is about the product... It doesn't diminish the brand at all.

Whatever is cheapest of course. In this economy, free shipping should be offered on any purchase over $100, I often buy online and arrange to pick-up at the store because shipping is free and I don't have to wait for an item to show up in the stores' aisles.

It seems like NOTHING is ever available for purchasing online on Ikea's site!

I am glad I live 2 miles to my local Ikea, for stuff that fits in a backpack I will even walk -- sucks to be you. Geography is everything. People should learn that. They got lazy and too dependent on Ford and Exxon/Mobil.

If I lived in an empty apartment needing furniture directly above the store I wouldn't go in that place. Cheap junk

yup -- a lot of it is cheap junk -- even more reason to not bother paying shipping and handling for it. you do get what you pay for at ikea -- they do have some decent stuff, but when you pay 20. for a coffee table you get what you pay for.

Gary, you something-starts-with-an-a, there are only a handful of Ikeas in the whole country, so it would be virtually impossible for everyone to live really close to one. Most states don't even have Ikeas, Gary, so since you are such an idiot, it sucks to be YOU.
