Spring is (thankfully!) almost here, and with that comes a new palette of fresh and bright colors to decorate with. But if you're looking for something a little less pronounced than, say, orange but just as vibrant, consider using the color green and all its hues.

Green is making a huge appearance this season, and it's not just because of St. Patrick's Day. Don't believe us? House Beautiful's March 2012 issue pays tribute to all things green and has declared it the color of the season. And for good reason -- the fresh color is extremely versatile, complementing any decorating style.

So, what are the best shades of green for those who are experimenting with color? "Tranquil, soothing and serene are words often used to describe the shades of green that will work most easily into just about any home's decor," said Kate Smith, color expert and chief color maven at Sensational Color. To get this subtle hint, "look for hues that are muted with just the right mix of green and gray. The green may almost disappear on a small swatch and look like a neutral but the true hue will be revealed when painted on an entire wall," she said.

With bolder greens, Kate advised to be more careful. Bright hues tend to have more yellow pigment, which often can contribute to an unwanted "dingy" look. But when mixed in the right proportions, a vibrant green can make a statement in any room. Additionally, you don't have to commit to a full room of green -- a pop of color can be more than enough. "Adding a murky or acid green to a scheme of otherwise pretty color adds an edge that keeps the combination interesting," Kate suggested. "Or use yellow-green and blue-green together with just about any other color for a scheme that is as fresh as the spring air."

Now that we've discussed all the benefits of painting with green, we culled several ways to incorporate green into your home. So get inspired, and flip through the slideshow below for 25 paint ideas for any room in your home.

Green pops against dark neutrals, making it a surprising alternative to bold red doors. Here, the painted green doors stand out and add to the curb appeal. Be sure to use exterior paint and to prime the door before painting to ensure that the wood doesn't absorb moisture (which leads to warping).

GREEN, my favorite "go to" color...if God directed Mother Nature to chose it to work with everything... that is good enough for me!

I think the new designs are really very elegant and green is a very important color its effects are sedating like color blue. Its one of those colors that has so many different hues and shades that goes with a variety of other colors. Green is a friendly color it compliments other colors if correct contrast, and combination is there. Colors have their own language, and they effect on our moods and emotions. Tranquil and beautiful surroundings can change one's out look. Some of those designs were simply exquisite, and i really loved them--Marvelous efforts, lovely designing-----

I hate white walls. So sterile. Any color would do that you like. Celery green is pretty. I like earth tones. They are so warm. But it depeneds on the atmosphere you want. Designers usually go for the bright or neon colors which are horrible.

I have worn out wallpaper in a dining room. The only reason I haven't taken it down is I couldn't pick a suitable paint color. I kept thinking 'antique gold' which, frankly makes me think of just another word for dark beige. Once in a while green would cross my mind. Thanks for the great ideas. It'll be a soft green that may lean to teal.

My home is mostly decorated in sage green and deep cranberry red, with cream trim and antique gold for the metal. The green goes beautifully with my cherry furniture. Sage green is a very natural color and goes very well with wood tones. I get compliments all the time from friends and family. It certainly is not 1970s at all. Just flip thru any current magazine such as a decoratiing one or even a Martha Stewart magazine and you'll see green used beautifully.I LOVE my sage green !

Sounds beautiful to me the way you have it. However, the pictures in this article are not attractive to me.

My all wool, dark British Racing Green, rug looks good with just about everything. It's not too green, too bright, or too dark. I was surprised when I bought the house, I came to like it.

I don't mind the pail light greens, or the chest in an antque look, but it isn't my favorite color and I think the bright greens are tacky.

I remember back in the '70's when Halloween orange was a popular front door color. Yuck.

The palest of Spring greens works best when doing any kind of interior decorating. Some of the greens shown in the pictures were absolutely wrong for any indoor application.
