Celebrities In Their Favorite Denim: A Tribute To Levi Strauss (PHOTOS)

HuffPost Social Reading

Long before there was Brooke Shields in her Calvin's and Farrah Fawcett in her bell bottoms, there was Levi Strauss. In 1853, he started his denim company in San Francisco which still reigns as the most popular jean label in the world. Favored by everyone from Rachel Bilson to Barack Obama, Levi's are a classic American staple that will never go out of style. To celebrate Levi Strauss' birthday, check out our gallery below of some of the best denim moments from past to present.

I used to wear Levi's faithfully when they were made in the USA,now you can keep your foreign made inferior crap.

What in the heck are Mom Jeans? In the 50s, all of us teenagers wore Levis after school. One kind. 501s. Boys and girls wore the same style. Really didn't fit the girls well, but we got used to it. Buttons of course, no zippers. Guarded the Red Tag!!

If you're old enough....you actually still have a pair of Levi's made in the good ole USA!!!! They are now made in Mexico.

You could put Marilyn Monroe in a potato sack and she would look stunning. She was a very intelligent comedic & serious actress and just drop dead gorgeous. It’s a shame she was involved with JFK and untimely took her own life?????????????????????
Their will never be another.

Zuckerberg and marilyn both like to wear Mom jeans!

try finding high rise contemporary jeans like that nowadays. The closest I found was Eddie Bauer. But you never get the same clothes year to year from overseas. Its all about the dollar.

You could try checking out a site like http://www.indicustom.com - a little pricey but they guarantee they'll fit...I have a high-rise pair from there that I love.

Thank you very much. Actually they were for my wife, but I lost Her a few years ago. I loved to take her clothes shopping..

The date for the Claudia Schiffer pic is wrong as she was all of 10 years old in 1980.

Back then she was considered over the top sexy. Now designers would say she was plus size. Just goes to show how styles change.

Far from plus size, are you kidding?

I wonder how much those vintage Levi's would be worth that Marilyn is wearing? Especially, the provenance of them being vintage and her wearing them.
08:51 AM on 02/27/2012
To be honest, Marilyn looks as if she is wearing "mom" jeans. But I guess back then, there were no other kind of jeans including "mom" jeans! LOL It's just not the most flattering for her figure, but then again, it was 58 years ago and sex was not thrown into your face like it is now. But still....

marilyn looked great as did most of them

It's a real shame that they aren't made in the USA anymore. Might as well buy an off brand that are just as good.
11:48 AM on 02/27/2012
I agree. Hard to find clothing made in the US these days. Designer jeans, such as 7 for All Mankind, True Religion, and Joe's Jeans are made here. Unfortunately, they have also have designer prices. I normally don't hesitate to spend more on American-made products, but I just can't swallow the $200+ price tag. If I could get away with owning only 2 pairs of jeans, I'd take the plunge, but I wear jeans every single day of the week.
