Oscars 2012 Best-Dressed: The Stars Who Made Our Jaws Drop (PHOTOS)

HuffPost Social Reading

Every year at the Oscars there is that moment when we fall off the couch because an actress took a style risk and blew the competition out of the water. Last year it was Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Haute Couture, at the 2012 Oscars it was Gwyneth Paltrow in a look right out of Tom Ford's fall 2012 collection (which was just shown a few days ago).

There were other stunners at the 2012 Oscars: Viola Davis in vibrant green (with that hair!), Octavia Spencer in silver and Jessica Chastain in black and gold. But Gwynnie took it to the next level. See the other ladies that made our jaws drop and see who made our worst-dressed list along with our best and worst beauty picks.

Gwyneth was tops in my book, with Milla running second.....honorable mention to Penelope Cruz. I thought it was funny that Jennifer Lopez made the "look like a lady" quote in a dress so tight and see-thru, it looked cheap. The quote is right-on, and she proved it!

Perhaps someone should spend a day at the Huffington Post office and write an article on the best and worst dressed females there. Oh wait, that would be derrogatory and exploitive to women.

Well, well, well, Who got the most media coverage? It never hurts to draw attention to ones self, in the entertainment field, does it!

As a designer, I have never liked any of the dresses people wear to the Academy Awards, or the jewelry. There is nothing really unusually creative nor innovative, year after year. I don't understand why people ( the closed world of "fashion"), get all that excited over designs that, while presentable and often lovely, are really not all that innovative or flattering. And, I would just love it if someone just said once "oh, my mom made it".

I thought the same thing. Put a nurses cap with a red cross on it and you have a 21st century Florence Nightingale. Take off the cape and you have a beach wedding dress.

Last night I looked at an article covering the clothing as they arrived. Whoever wrote that obviously has very different taste than the person who wrote this..... that article mocked Gwyneth's cape and several others on this best list were on that worst list. In other words, everyone has different taste. And unless you're really out there (and wear a swan) someone will love the way you look and others will hate it. Dress for whatever makes you look best and to heck with these critics.

I think they all have a unique style of their own, such a great inspiration and a pleasure to look at them. The dresses are gorgeous the hair styles marvelous. A real star studded sky, all of them twinkling significantly. Beautiful lucky ladies---

denzel washington makes a film with hair au natural, viola davis does the wig trick. almost every black person featured in a commercial has a variation on an afro- from ikea to baking products what gives. ad people and the creators of the products have colluded to advance the style. the hair style isn't the problem but the fact that there is such blatant collusion. ad manipulation has always been a problem but the fact that there is widespread acceptance of the use of this hair style certainly raises eyebrows as to what else these guys could promote particularly in the form of social and political manipulation.
