Why Are Men Tweezing Their Eyebrows?

I figured I would start my blogging career at the Huffington Post talking about something that I am currently obsessed with... Why the hell are men plucking their eyebrows and how did it start? It is so incredibly unsexy and unnatural, and somehow has turned into a trend for the last 10 years, and is getting worse by the minute. I have just returned from Italy and was shocked to see how many straight guys had tweezed and plucked their brows, and had combined it with shaping their side burns. Even in New York, from the deli guy to the Wall Street trader -- this phenomena has spread like wildfire.

I have struggled to understand how it all started and which dimwit decided that if he plucked his eyebrows to be pencil thin it would look unnoticeable and somehow... hot. It's shocking to see these big muscled guys strutting around with half their eyebrows.

Being born and bred in Bay Ridge Brooklyn, I have witnessed the beginning of many trends, from the Guidos in "Saturday Night Fever" to the start of the white rappers and the "Beastie Boys." I figure that this movement was definitely started in a city environment, like New York City or San Juan, and now it has spread all over the country, to cattle ranches in Alabama. I had always fantasized that it had started with either a gay guy telling his best friend he would look fierce without a unibrow or more realistically an 18 year old girl, whilst lying in bed, telling her boyfriend that he would look more "polished" and sexier if he tweezed a few hairs. She then decided to do it for him and got carried away and wiped out half his brow. His best friend chose to copy him and set about to do his own home-grooming and so on and so forth.

I decided to do some research online to see what came up. There was nothing on the history but there was a lot of chatter on the blogs from girls that said they thought guys looked better with shaped eyebrows. Most of the comments were pro-tweezing with an occasional...NO! I'm assuming these are the same girls who I always hear saying that Gay men are always better looking than straight men. Since I am a gay man I can honestly say that comment is completely untrue. Straight guys do not need to become so polished and metro-sexual that they look like they are Trans-gendering. I know I'm sounding a bit like a hater, but I'm trying to do my service to the greater community on a purely superficial topic, but one that is unnecessarily cutting the amount of attractive men to pick from. When I'm walking down the street and a Tweezer coming, I always think to myself...here is a perfectly cute guy that would be so much cuter if he didn't pluck/tweeze/thread/wax.

Hopefully I have made a strong enough argument that will plant the seed (via the Huffington Post) to start open discussions from the living room to the locker room where men and woman can honestly put an end to this criminal trend that has taken the world like the black plague.
