She refuses to let her busy lifestyle drive her into a dangerous world of baggy sweats and over-sized t-shirts, those familiar, vile temptations. Pulling style inspiration everywhere from strong graphic design to goth chic to corporate menswear, Annie is fighting the stereotype that geeks and artists can only dress like they've got nowhere to go. This can be a rather difficult feat to tackle, for her line of work is often accompanied by the risk of getting ink and paint on everything.

Annie loves the feel of paper that has been scratched by dip pen nibs and wearing her wingtip shoes around the house just so she can hear the heels against the floor. Her hair is currently dark purple (Special Effects Purple Passion), so her fingers are too. Her plum laptop cases matches. Annie's fashion weakness is for structured jackets and coats and super-strange scarves, a love that made her years in sunny Florida a little too warm. She is also convinced that drugstore nail polish is infinitely better than the expensive, high-end stuff. No, seriously.

Find more Annie at TV Squad, CliqueClack, and her illustration/design blog.
Annie Wu originally appeared on StyleList on Thu, 01 Jan 2009 06:07:00 EST. See what we did there? "Time." Because this post is about watches. We're good, we know.

Super-watch company Swatch has released a line of James Bond villain-themed watches to celebrate the release of the newest 007 flick, Quantum of Solace. The watches range from childishly kooky (like the skull-filled Live And Let Die piece) to delightfully sleek (like the subtly eyepatch-y Thunderball piece). It is also a huge bonus that they aren't blatantly Bond-related; it'd be even better if they got rid of the tiny little "007" emblems though.
Continue reading It's time for James Bond

It's time for James Bond originally appeared on StyleList on Wed, 05 Nov 2008 13:15:00 EST. This fragrance, Wode by Boudicca, sprays on blue and fades to nothing right before your eyes. We have no idea how it smells, despite our best efforts in repeatedly pressing our noses against our monitors, but the artsiness of it all is enough to make us want to try. We quite like that fancy little spray can it comes in, as well.
Continue reading Stay blue with Boudicca Wode

Stay blue with Boudicca Wode originally appeared on StyleList on Thu, 30 Oct 2008 13:03:00 EST. The Potion, which one would apply to eyelids as a foundation layer, promises to make eye make-up more vibrant, longer lasting, and un-crease-able (that's a word now, by the way). Could this tiny little wand and strange, beige liquid really keep make-up on our eyes longer than usual? As it turns out, yeah. Yeah, it totally can. And we think we're in love.
Continue reading Yes, Urban Decay's Primer Potion really is that awesome

Yes, Urban Decay's Primer Potion really is that awesome originally appeared on StyleList on Thu, 30 Oct 2008 09:18:00 EST. Of course you have. We know what you think about all day. Take a look at Advanced Style, a style on the street blog that features the finest fashions from the older folks. These people have had years to find the balance between fashionable and practical and have picked up a little something from every decade they've lived through.
Continue reading Old people can be fabulous too

Old people can be fabulous too originally appeared on StyleList on Tue, 14 Oct 2008 11:03:00 EST. A team-up between Samsonite and Swarovski have come up with such a product... Behold, the Samsonite Black Label trunk, covered in crystals and -- get this -- only 30 are in existence. Now, this thing is massive, so there's no way to subtly flash it like it's darling diamond earrings hiding under your hair until you pull it up. This thing is immediately and absolutely in-your-face and begging to be kicked over and smashed in a jealous rampage.
Continue reading Limited edition Swarovski trunks for those who want to be hated

Limited edition Swarovski trunks for those who want to be hated originally appeared on StyleList on Wed, 08 Oct 2008 15:09:00 EST. Check out these new designs that look better than ever, evolved from their basic ballerina-style slip-ons. These rubber coverings look easy to pull on and slip off on days when you want to protect your shoes from rain, snow or mud.

A notable one is the new covering made specially for heels. The cut has been specialized to flatter just about every type of high-heeled shoe, tempting just about anyone to wear these even when the weather isn't so bad. Heck, even the additional traction along the bottom has been lovingly detailed into a street map. Now that's attention to detail.

Visit the Swims store for more details of this upcoming design and purchase their currently available ballerina-style galoshes. NOTCOT and Frizzifrizzi have additional pictures for drooling purposes.
Galoshes for your... heels? originally appeared on StyleList on Tue, 07 Oct 2008 14:02:00 EST. These Skin of the City t-shirts remind us of the beauty of a simple all-over design. Our favorites are these prints of ghostly, bare trees. Reminiscent of Northern winters or the circulatory system, this shirt adds interesting detail to an otherwise plain shirt.

We can see it now: This shirt, plus a pair of dark wash jeans or black trousers and a well-structured, neutral-colored jacket on top, preferably military-inspired cutting. The other shirt designs, flattened images of buildings and brick walls stretched across your torso, are pretty cool, but the stunning impact of so many strong little lines do the trick for us.

This isn't the first time we've ooh'd and ahh'd over shirts. While we were distracted by the full-sequined tea cozies or bizarre dog-hair sweaters (we don't actually know if those exist, but we wouldn't be surprised), Coilhouse compiled this handy post called "The Pervert's Guide to Etsy." It's just as it sounds, really, so it's not for the faint-of-heart or anyone that has very solid pre-conceived notions of hipster goods.

Looking at the list, we can dig what's going on. Yeah, we're hip (is it hip to use "hip" these days?), and despite the fact that latex isn't our first -- or second or third -- choice for breathable fabric, we can appreciate the naughtier side of this seemingly innocent corner of the Internet world. As for the fanny pack, there aren't enough sexy ruffles in the world to tempt us, as long as the words "fanny" and "pack" are involved.
Etsy for the naughty originally appeared on StyleList on Wed, 24 Sep 2008 11:22:00 EST. It has gone so far that designers like Natthakur London have been driven to make handbags that resemble the carriers of our supermarket deliciousness. Check out this leather grocery bag with old-school stripes.

According to the website, it was voted Number 1 in the "50 Best Christmas Gifts for Women" in the Independent's "The Information", which kind of baffles us. It's a nice bag and all, but aren't there nicer ones for Mom or Wife-y or Sis? Like... Louis? Also, the £140.00 (approximately $250) price tag is nothing to sneeze at.
Continue reading The look of a grocery bag but infinitely more durable

The look of a grocery bag but infinitely more durable originally appeared on StyleList on Wed, 17 Sep 2008 14:04:00 EST. However, sometimes those bad hair days encounter an unwelcome camera and we're stuck with a documented fashion tragedy for the rest of our lives. If you're looking for a bit of schadenfreude to soothe your soul because you've had one bad hair day too many, just check out this oddly beautiful hall of shame called Sexy People. Hopefully these photos also serve as reminders to stick with making basics look good instead of being a slave to fads and trends.

Some of our favorites involve laser beam backgrounds or big hair; if you're lucky, you may catch one with both. Also, evidently, it's submitted by the very same people in the terrible photos, so don't be afraid to laugh. Here are some excellent ones to get the ball rolling.
Make yourself feel better with Sexy People originally appeared on StyleList on Wed, 10 Sep 2008 12:34:00 EST. First of all, they look like they would fall apart at first touch. Secondly, what kind of shoes would work with this? Even the model legs in the sample photos can't make the socks look good, leaving the lacy edges sloppily spilled over the edges of the pump.

We can kind of dig what look they were trying to achieve, though, but we've seen it done better with a couple of cheap ribbons strategically wrapped up and around a pump-clad foot. It's a simple and cheap way to get the same ballet-inspired look without looking too ridiculous. Plus, it's another way to get a look from an otherwise average-looking heel.
Continue reading The most unnecessary socks ever, brought to you by Betsey Johnson

The most unnecessary socks ever, brought to you by Betsey Johnson originally appeared on StyleList on Tue, 09 Sep 2008 16:18:00 EST. Well, most of you know that student living quarters can be pretty cramped, leaving little to no space for a full-fledged desk to do work. Sometimes, a laptop needs a non-lap to sit on. Where should one turn to for a (relatively) cheap and stylish solution?

Ikea, naturally. The store's new 2009 catalog is full of amazing things, but a notable new item is this laptop workstation. It's something you can mount on a wall and fold out to reveal a small tabletop, just big enough to hold your laptop. There are also little cubbies for storing small things and lockable sections for security. This would be the perfect addition to a dorm room where the resident can't even stretch without scraping their knuckles against a wall.

[via Unclutterer]

Ikea does it again for back to school students originally appeared on StyleList on Fri, 15 Aug 2008 15:08:00 EST. Students of today often have to tote around more than just a couple of books and a Jansport, and it's important to keep those extra goodies protected from the bumps and scratches of hectic school life. Just a wee bit of prevention can go a long way. So, combining these two wonderful things must create something marvelous, right? Apparently not.

The Bang-Go Cap is a visor and baseball cap in one, complete (or "incomplete"?) with a hole along the top for you to fluff out your bangs. This is meant to provide sufficient coverage and blockage from the sun without causing the terrible atrocity known as hat hair.
Continue reading Bangs are great, but not like this

Bangs are great, but not like this originally appeared on StyleList on Sat, 26 Jul 2008 14:09:00 EST. Babe machines.

Amorphia Apparel is a t-shirt line by designer Jeremy Kalgreen. As stylish bloggers, we know it's important to keep our laptops safe in the coolest way possible. The Gelaskin has been an interesting and visually pleasing way to dress up a laptop, but it doesn't offer much protection apart from light scratching and scraping. Some other items, like the Speck shell, have sparked complaints online, after consumers found their anti-scratching cases to be the main culprits in scratching up their covers. Here comes InCase to the rescue!
Continue reading InCase keeps your computer safe, just in case

InCase keeps your computer safe, just in case originally appeared on StyleList on Mon, 30 Jun 2008 16:00:00 EST. Using the talents of Julian Casablancas of The Strokes, Pharrell Williams of NERD and The Neptunes, and Santogold, the company hopes to form a music collaboration so awesome that the sneakers will go flying off the shelves. But, you know, in a cool way.

They have also filmed a video, in which the sneakers will be featured prominently. Let's see if they can pull this off as a music video with sneakers and not a commercial with new music.

As someone who has already bought into the scruffy Chuck Taylor lifestyle, we don't need any additional convincing. However, as cool as this collaboration sounds, we can't help but wonder just how effective it will actually be. There must be some tween-y skateboarders who will go nuts for it.
Will good music put shoes on your feet? originally appeared on StyleList on Thu, 22 May 2008 15:12:00 EST. At the recent NBC Universal Experience event, some of the brightest faces from NBC made their way to the red carpet and Ramirez showed up wearing... this.

I've been staring at this bizarre ensemble for a good fifteen minutes or so and I cannot make heads nor tails of it. The only way I can process it without my brain exploding is if I break it down, piece by piece. Let's take a look at that electric blue eyeliner first. Okay, so that's fun and a bit daring, but screamingly inappropriate against whatever the heck is draped across her chest and legs. It looks like an 80s parrot ate a bunch of Crayons and then exploded in a fit of agony. The garish colors and print aside, the cut is awkward. The boring, beige shoes just make everything extra confusing.

If I cover up the dress, Ramirez still looks okay. Naked, but okay. Need more proof of this red carpet travesty? Check it out.
Heroes star makes my eyes bleed originally appeared on StyleList on Mon, 19 May 2008 14:17:00 EST. Pasty-faced gamers with joysticks permanently attached to their hands just aren't cutting it anymore.

In an attempt to draw in the fashion-savvy crowds, Rockstar Games has thrown Karl Lagerfeld into the fourth installment of Grand Theft Auto. Although it would be insanely cool to speed through the streets as silver-haired Lagerfeld, he won't be featured as a character. Instead, he's playing DJ -- you do know he's a DJ, right? -- and taking care of the music for the game.

As much fun as this sounds, it still seems like a bizarre choice. Will Grand Theft Auto players know enough to appreciate Lagerfeld? Will Lagerfeld-lovers be enticed enough to get into the game? I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Karl Lagerfeld takes on Grand Theft Auto originally appeared on StyleList on Thu, 10 Apr 2008 14:11:00 EST.
