Okay, maybe not as conventional as a box of chocolates and a corner table at Chez French Guy, but we love the idea of a non-commercial date for V-day. Just because it isn't candle-lit doesn't mean it can't be romantic. There's no better time for a kiss than when you've finally reached the summit! Even better: You're burning off all those boxes of chocolate from your other admirers (read: your dad).

Take a look at our picks to sweat in from Nau, an earth-friendly activewear company with a definite climbing focus committed to design, performance, and sustainability. I love the colors because not only do they look good on almost everyone, they also can be mixed and matched with any of their other pieces.

I hate January not just because of the nasty weather, but also because it's a limbo month. It's too early to start buying for spring since you've still got at least another month of the chills, but way, way too late for the oranges, olives, and burgundies of November. Have you ever noticed that all the magazines have big "Get Organized!" features in January? It's because we need to clear out the gloom! I spend most of January staring out the window, dreaming of summer, fun colors, sundresses, and cute swimsuit cover-ups, yet consistently find myself lounging around the house in leggings and an old man sweater.

That's why I'm declaring war on January by wearing fuchsia.

Yes, every time I wake up to the sound of raindrops on my roof or dismal skies, I'm going to pull my fuchsia trench coat out of the closet and stomp through puddles in style. Here's my favorite:

From Versace, $2,740. At Saks.

I would also wear this gorgeous neon blue packable trench from Burberry, $1,495, even if it isn't fuchsia. Buy it at Burberry.com.

Transition to Spring with the Classic Trench originally appeared on StyleList on Thu, 24 Jan 2008 17:17:00 EST. For a long time I thought of Cole Haan as an "older" brand, probably because my fleeting glances toward the Cole Haan section of Nordstrom have been extremely fruitless. The word "orthopedic" comes to mind.

Readers, I have been proven wrong.

I've spent the better part of the morning obsessing over their leather coats, and I'm considering throwing a bag and a pair of shoes into the mix as well. Not only are their coats and shoes classic (as usual), they have also stepped up to the plate with modern and youthful details in many of their items, making them perfect for us trendseekers who like to get a little mileage out of our big budget couture. Here are just a few items from their winter collection that I'm smitten with. I also happen to know that their leather goods are incredibly well made, which is good, because they'll be in style for a long time.
