The event celebrated Fred Segal's new pop-up store, which exclusively carries the collection by Damien Hirst in collaboration with the Warhol Factory and Levi's.

The scene was not your typical fashion-event-going crowd; it was very (very) hipster -- lots of grungy boys and girls wearing hoodies, sneakers and jeans (which of course was fitting considering the collection was based on those pieces). DJ's were spinning, drinks were being mixed, and photographers were snapping away -- Warhol would have been proud.

The collection itself was pretty darn cool too! Amazing skull bedazzled jeans, skull printed short-shorts, tee shirts, and one of my favorite pieces were the shiny leather jackets. In fact, I liked the jacket so much that I got one of the hipsters to model it for me.

Check out the store at Fred Segal in Santa Monica on Broadway and 4th Street (420 Broadway).
Damien Hirst x Warhol Factory x Levi's originally appeared on StyleList on Fri, 04 Apr 2008 12:35:00 EST. What is that like water, asparagus, and chewing gum? Nah not so much, it goes more like this "lose some weight or you can't be on my cover."

That's exactly what happened to Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte. The two designers received a call from a Vogue editor who suggested they get on a diet and see a personal trainer. Kate and Laura were actually fine with it because they wanted to get healthier anyways (uh huh). The 'Vogue Diet' consisted of four months of personal training and a meal delivery service.

The fashionable diet paid off as they lost a combined total of 50 pounds. They even kept a diet diary that will appear in the April issue. Of course Vogue got a lot of heat for asking the sisters to diet, and this isn't the first time. Back in 1998 Oprah actually agreed to drop 20 pounds before her cover shoot.

I don't know what to think about this. On one hand if Vogue paid for all of my weight loss needs and I kinda wanted to drop some weight anyways it wouldn't be a big deal. However on the other hand ... Vogue is straight up calling people fat. What do you all think?
The Vogue Diet originally appeared on StyleList on Thu, 27 Mar 2008 20:34:00 EST. I sure couldn't or at least I wouldn't. Today is National No Makeup Day. I know, what genius made that holiday up? The organizers of National No Makeup Day created this silly holiday because they say women are too dependent on makeup. Um duh, yeah we are!

I am starting to think that giving up a nasty crack habit would be easier than giving up makeup for an entire day (at least in public). But really, I am being a bit dramatic. I do leave the house without makeup to do things like move my car from one side of the street to another and to go to the gym -- but that's about it.

Over the years I have learned to use makeup do wonderful things for my face, things that everyday onlookers think happen to my face all on it's own. Like my blemish-free dewy skin, my longer than life eyelashes, my just got finished having sex flushed cheeks -- those things aren't natural people it's the makeup.

When normal people see me without makeup I get remarks like "Are you mad at me?" or "Late night" and the always popular "You look tired." I don't know if I could handle going a full day without, I might just lose my mind. Tell me could you all go a day, a full 24 hours?
National No Makeup Day originally appeared on StyleList on Thu, 27 Mar 2008 20:32:00 EST.
I have scoured the web in an effort to find the best backless fashions on the market. My reasons are selfish really, I just got a tattoo in the middle of my back and I want to show it off. Selfishness aside, the backless trend really is making a comeback so you get on board and show some back.

Easier said than done huh? How do you wear backless tops and dresses without being "too free." Thankfully there a couple of options out there that we have talked about on StyleDash before:

Nippies: For the tiny-breasted gals out there who aren't necessary afraid of flopping around but are afraid of showing off their high-beams, try Nippies. Nippies are these great nipple stickers that keep those beams in control.

Backless bra: In the past backless bras have never been really backless, they always have a little something to them. Maidenform has made the first ever totally backless bra. I have to say, I am impressed and can't wait to try this thing out.

Trend Alert: Bringing backless back originally appeared on StyleList on Thu, 27 Mar 2008 19:19:00 EST. I found myself in Make Up For Ever's section of the store, which is a section I am not too familiar with. What I found was a bevy of bright eye shadows, glitters, and ridiculously stylish fake eyelashes -- I was in heaven.

I am not a fake eyelash type of girl at all. I have really long eyelashes (don't hate), in fact once when I was at MAC I bought a pair of fakes and my lashes were longer than the ones I bought -- true story. Anyhow, the lashes from Make Up For Ever are amazing, even a girl like me can appreciate these.

The lashes are over the top (to say the least) and super-affordable (about $14 a set). Many of the lashes are made with funky feathers or are so long they surpass your eyebrows. These lashes aren't for daytime use, unless you want to look like a complete fool. I think these hot pieces of beauty are best suited for hitting town and painting it red.

Make Up For Ever's lashbar originally appeared on StyleList on Thu, 27 Mar 2008 17:44:00 EST. Hats are huge right now, well, a huge trend that is ... the actual size of the hats seem to be shrinking. These two hats from Chapeau Claudette look like they walked straight out of a fairytale. I feel as if the models should be animated, wearing white gloves, and drinking tea with a white rabbit. All of that nonsense aside, I actually dig the hats.

While these hats aren't necessarily easy to pull off (you can't wear them to pick up a taco or walk down to the mailbox) you can make these hats look adorably chic. I would suggest wearing these tiny hats with an over-the-top tea dress for a fun and flirty look or, for a more demure look -- with a secretary blouse/ pencil skirt combination.

These hats are for sale on ASOS.com for about $65 USD (the site is a UK site). What do you think of tiny hats, chic or silly?

The teeny-tiny hat committee originally appeared on StyleList on Thu, 27 Mar 2008 13:11:00 EST. Payless is really stepping up their game by selling designer shoes. During New York Fashion Week designers Lela Rose, Abaete, and Alice + Olivia all showcased shoe from Payless (shoes that they designed). All of the shoe collections are pretty great, much better than I would expect from Payless.

Abaete- Designer Laura Poretzky was excited to design a line of shoes that everyone could afford. Her shoes are easy to wear, as the heels are not too high while the shoe remains sexy. Her line for Payless also has sunglasses, watches, and handbags. Prices range from $14-$30.

Lela Rose- Casual luxury is the name of the game for Lela Rose and her collection certainly embodies that. I love her polka dot pumps the most but I am also a fan of the sling back flats -- and I am not even a flats girl.

Alice + Olivia- Contemporary designer Stacey Bendet of Alice + Olivia has created an exciting and affordable line for Payless. I can't get enough of these bright yellow wedges; they are sale too for a cool $32.99.

Buy these shoes and the rest of the collections online or at Payless stores.

Payless on the Runway originally appeared on StyleList on Thu, 27 Mar 2008 10:46:00 EST. I am a huge fan of black eyeliner; in fact I wear it everyday. Problem is, by the end of the day my eyeliner is halfway down my face. For some reason I just accepted this horrible fate and wiped my eyes like a dummy every few hours. It wasn't until I was reading InStyle magazine the other day where I saw a little blurb about Ashley Simpson's favorite things.

Yes, it took Ashley Simpson to convince me there was a way around my raccoon eye problem. So hard for me to admit these things...

Ashley swears by Chanel's waterproof eyeliner pencil, she claims it stays on even during shows where she dancing around stage for hours (and not singing). If eyeliner can withstand lip-syncing and wild dancing then please sign me up for two.
Chanel's waterproof eyeliner originally appeared on StyleList on Thu, 27 Mar 2008 07:39:00 EST. Organic beauty products are great, I would even go as far as saying they are fabulous. However, sometimes you get a dud and your soap ends up smelling like a salad. I don't know about you but I don't want to smell salad when I am showering. So when I tried this soap by Savon de Marseilles and it smelled good. I was over the moon.

This little bar of magic is free of animal fats and all that nasty stuff. In place of that nasty stuff are vegetables, organic palm and coconut oils. Savon de Marseilles soap is also loaded with lavender, which sooths your tired nerves or if you need a jolt try the verbena-scented soap, which will give you a little invigoration.

The packaging is great too. It has nice and contemporary feel, that way no one will be forced to call you a granola-crunching hippie.
Organic soap that doesn't smell like a salad originally appeared on StyleList on Wed, 26 Mar 2008 19:30:00 EST. The times that I find my feet are the scariest is when I take off my shoes for yoga class. It's like "gee, my feet didn't look this crappy when I woke up this morning" Luckily there is a quick solution that can easily be tossed in your yoga bag ... Deep Steep Natural Candy Mint Moisture Stick.

This handy stick is loaded with cocoa butter, echinacea, vitamin E, as well as botanical extracts and emollient oils. All of that good stuff will result in super-soft skin and who doesn't like that?

I like this stick because it's so easy to just keep in your bag, it smells nice, it's organic, and it doesn't feel greasy on your skin. Oh and did I mention it was dirt-cheap? Yeah this magical stick is only $5 -- better get a couple.
Mmm foot candy, mint moisture stick originally appeared on StyleList on Wed, 26 Mar 2008 10:48:00 EST. Ring ring ...

Hellooo! Fabulous bag calling, pick up pick up.

I am a sucker for kitschy handbags. I have a bag that looks like a Chinese takeout box, a bag made out of a vintage book, even a bag that looks like a killer rack. Even with all of those crazy bags in my closet, I still have room for a few more. I think I will start with this bag from Betsey Johnson.

Betsey Johnson is having a little more fun with her Betseyville handbag collection by throwing this telephone bag into the mix. The purse has a detachable toy phone at top, a faux cord, and a dial design stitched onto the front.

The bag comes in teal, black, purple, or pink and will only set you back $65. A small price to pay for a lot of fun if you ask me.

Call me baby! Wham! Zap!

I feel like these jeans are mimicking a fight scene from Batman (the television show, not the movie). These are the fugliest jeans that I have ever seen. Why on earth would anyone want to have an insane red lightening bolt shooting down from their booty all the way to their calves? It just can't be flattering.

I suppose I am not alone in hating these because they have managed to make their way onto the sale section of Shop.Eviso.com. They fugalicious jeans can be yours for the low, low price of $113, originally $225. If you ask me both the original and the sale price are too high. But then again I would consider a price tag that said, "Free.
The sun, it looks all bright and cheery but in actuality it is pretty darn evil. The sun causes skin cancer, wrinkles, and skin as soft as a ratty piece of leather. We are all far too smart to coat ourselves in oil and layout like we did in the good old days. Nowadays there are a slew of products on the market that can make you look tan without turning to the sun, here are some of my favorites:

Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs Tan Glow for Medium to Tan Skin Tones: Just spray a bit of this stuff to even out the skin tone on your legs or to get a shade darker. It's easy to apply but I little messy to get off. It's so worth the mess if you are looking for perfect egs without the help of old school pantyhose.

Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Pressed Powder, Bronzer: A little bronzer never hurt anyone. This stuff got me through the summer last year. It was the perfect powder to give me a little glow before hitting the town. The brush that is included makes for an easy application and because it's mineral makeup it isn't horrible for your skin.

Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer: Out of all of the tanning lotions, I like this one the best. Smells great, the tan is gradual, the tan actually works and looks real, oh and it's dirt cheap. Pick up a bottle at any drugstore, grocery store, or online and you will have a tan in no time without the harmful rays from the sun.

You can never be too rich or too thin right? Almost everyone wants to slim down but no one wants to put all of that pesky effort into it. Well you aren't going to get thin by just sitting around. You have to step away from the plate and hit the gym to get that body of your dreams but in the mean time ... just fake it.

These aren't tips and tricks like wearing all black or putting on wrap dress (we all know about those by now), these are actual products that claim to make you look thinner.

Hello! Skinny Jeans Barely Bootcut: Usually skinny jeans end up making people look fat but these jean's claim to fame is that they make people look slimmer. Check it out, they are cut to trim your thighs, tighten your tummy, lift your booty, and elongate your legs.

Spanx Control Top Fishnet Pantyhose Hosiery: Spanx have quickly become a 'can't live without' product for women everywhere. Nicole Richie is using them to hide her post-prego figure, Tyra has been using them to conceal her weight gain, and Oprah has been preaching about them for years. I have worn Spanx and let me tell you something ... they work!

Fit Flop: These sandals not only claim to make your legs look thinner and fitter but they are said to actually make them thinner. Flip flops that work on your fitness, not sure that I buy into it but it doesn't hurt to try now does it?
Just fake it! I am sort of a bag lady. Not like a homeless bag lady and not a girl who can't stop buying purses (I am a shoe gal myself) but I actually just carry a lot of bags. Every morning I wake up and head out the door with my gym bag (a huge duffel bag), my laptop/ workbag, and my purse (which is also huge). I teeter around in my 5-inch heels from the car, to the gym, to the office, back to my car and home. Everyday this happens and everyday someone comments on how much stuff I carry around.

The other day a co-worker who also goes from the gym to work asked me "why are you carrying so much?" She then proceeded to show me her awesome Lululemon gym bag that was a triples threat, as it not only had gym space but a laptop compartment and plenty of room for personal stuff too.

The bag was awesome so I had to tell her that I was going to run out and get the same bag but in a different color. The next day I trucked it on over to Lululemon and to my delight they had plenty of bags in different colors and different fabrics. I ended up going with a white bag that was covered in a black graffiti print with bright orange zippers. Talk about $78 well spent! I was able to consolidate my three bag habit into one bag while looking insanely stylish.
Hold it all with Lululemon's gym bag originally appeared on StyleList on Fri, 21 Mar 2008 14:56:00 EST. I have suffered through winter (okay suffer is a strong word I do live in L.A) and I am ready to change seasons. With the changing of seasons comes the changing of my makeup bag and it's contents. Here are some of the spring beauty products that are on my radar and will soon be charged to my Amex after I tear through Sephora.

For the face: Tinted moisturizer is a great option when the temperature rises. Foundations can be heavy and uncomfortable plus they don't give you that "glow." Clinique's Up-Lighting Liquid Illuminator gives an amazing glow and scores tons of compliments too. If tinted moisturizers aren't your things, MAC has created a mineral makeup that has SPF for a light and skin-friendly option.

For the eyes: When it comes to buying spring cosmetics I like to get as much bang for my buck. Getting a shadow duo or full on palette is a wise move. For less than $30 you can get a 10-color palette from Sugar that will take care of all of your color needs. If you are into neon brights for spring (they are totally in style) go for this shadow duo from Nars called Rated R.

For the lips: Nothing says spring to me like a nice pink lip color. There are some great new items out like Smashbox's O-Glow, which changes color, based on your body's chemistry. If all of that chemistry freaks you out, try something more natural like Cargo's lip color. Once you have finished your tube of lipstick you can plant it in the ground and it will sprout into a flower -- no joke.

Whatever products you choose for your face this spring just make sure they are bright, light, and cheery ... after all spring has sprung!

There is a new silhouette in town, the tulip. In both New York and L.A. Fashion Week tulip skirts were walking down the runways. If you aren't familiar with the cut, it's a skirt that, well, looks like a tulip -- fitted at the waist, puffy in the middle, and tight at the bottom.

On the runway these skirts look adorable, after all you have stick thin models wearing them. For us real girls out there you have to be careful with a cut like this. I mean who wants to make their hips look bigger than they actually are. To wear this look without looking like a marshmallow, make sure you wear something fitted on top. It also helps to wear dark hosiery to streamline the look.

I for one won't be sporting this look and I am sick to death of seeing "volume" being in vogue. What do you think about tulips skirts ... style 'do' or style 'don't'?

Fall 2008 Trend: Tulip skirts originally appeared on StyleList on Fri, 21 Mar 2008 11:46:00 EST. Cellulite. No one likes it and a lot of people have it. For those people who do have cellulite, they will do whatever it takes to get rid of it. Slather on creams, use vibrating contraptions, and get injections, whatever.

Now you can leave those "old-fashioned" techniques alone and just strap on a pair of shoes -- fugly shoes. I, thankfully, don't have cellulite but if I did I would not be caught dead in these shoes! I mean look at them they are hideous.

These platform pink sneakers from Bliss World claim to bust cellulite, lift your booty, tone muscles, improve your posture, and make you taller -- just by walking around in them. These shoes could walk me to a pot of gold and I still wouldn't wear them. The question is, would you?

Available in women's whole and half sizes in pink/gray or blue/gray for $245.
Cellulite busting sneakers originally appeared on StyleList on Tue, 18 Mar 2008 16:40:00 EST. Now I am no expert when it comes to babies, heck I don't even really like babies all that much, but I do know that paying $120 for a pacifier is too much. Aren't those things supposed to be like $2.99 for a pack of 3? Well if you have a spoiled rotten baby you will pay $120 for one pacifier, not a pack of 3.

Right now at Shop Intuition you can purchase your baby a Swarovski adorned pacifier by Aristocrat. This fancy teething toy is 100% baby safe -- no crystals were lost even after boiling. Sure, no crystals were lost but I can promise you that after a week the $120 pacifier will be long gone after baby Johnny spits it out.

So I have to ask, would you spend $120 on a teething toy for your little bundle of joy?

Bling, bling baby originally appeared on StyleList on Tue, 18 Mar 2008 12:52:00 EST.
