Wouldn't it be nice to always step out of the house looking your sveltest? Well, thanks to a new book by fashion and beauty expert Charla Krupp, you can do just that.

"How to Never Look Fat Again: Over 1,000 Ways to Dress Thinner -- Without Dieting!" is a no-holds-barred guide on camouflaging Buddha bellies, muffin tops, bat wings, cankles, big butts and thunder thighs.

Krupp, whose first book, "How Not to Look Old," remained on the New York Times best seller list for weeks, doesn't mince words when it comes to dishing out advice.

Her straightforward, honest approach combined with stellar tips makes her book a must-read for women of all shapes and sizes.

StyleList got a chance to talk to the author on the eve of her book launch.

StyleList: What are the most fattening clothes a woman can wear?
Charla Krupp: Oversized T-shirts, drawstring pants, capri pants if you have cankles, sneakers with pants, sleeveless shirts for people who have arm flab, bright white gym shoes with tube socks, low-riding jeans for people with muffin top, wrap dresses if you have too much cleavage.

SL: Has the way you dress changed since writing the book?
CK: Yes, I realized I have so many clothes I need to get rid of. I put them on, and they don't make me feel good anymore. They're either too old or too baggy. I've made a lot of mistakes in my lifetime.

I love hot pink, but I shouldn't be wearing it in skirts. I have this Dolce & Gabbana python beaded-and-sequined skirt -- it's ridiculous! I can't wear all that embellishment on the lower half of my body.

I want less. I want fewer things; I want space in my closet!

SL: What are some ways that women can make their wardrobes less fattening on the cheap?
CK: Target has great things that are very of the moment. But even if you buy something trendy, you still have to be sure it makes you look good. I think the temptation for so many women is that they want to wear the trends, but the trends are not your friend. You really have to evaluate: Is it worth it to wear the trend? You have to rethink it.

If spice colors are in, then maybe an orange skirt isn't the answer for you. But an orange bag? Sure, why not. Or an orange cardigan sweater. You have to make sure you're not wearing a bright color on a place on your body that's going to make you look fat.

SL: What nonfattening pieces should everyone have in her closet?
CK: Everyone should have an amazing pair of jeans that makes your butt look good, a great black pencil skirt that really shows off your shape and the best pair of nude heels you can afford.

SL: What spring trends are the most and least fattening?
CK: Graphic-print dresses can be a little tricky. If you have a big butt, a Buddha belly or muffin top, pick a print that's not so busy. If the print has a black background, that's better. The cage shoe is tricky to wear if you're not crazy about your calves or your cankles. They really draw attention to your feet.

A solid A-line dress that really fits you well will look great. The pouf skirt, on the other hand, is a disaster on anybody who has fat thighs. The transparent trend is also a disaster -- who wants everyone to see what they're trying to hide?

SL: Which celebrities do the no-fat look well?
CK: I think Sandra Bullock looks good. She wears a lot of belts around her waist. Demi Moore, she often wears knee-length dresses, which is very age appropriate. You have to dress for your age. Michelle Pfeiffer always looks good. Julia Roberts looks great.

SL: What are your secret weapons in the fight against fat?
CK: Shapewear is key. I love the new line from Spanx called Skinny Britches. The pieces are very feminine and pretty, so if you happen to flash a little shapewear when you're getting out of a cab, you won't be embarrassed. Sometimes I wear shapewear all the way up to the bra band. I never wear flimsy underwear.

I wear nude heels that blend into my skin tone and lengthen my legs. I use Revolotion from DuWop on my legs after I shave them -- I never wax, only shave! You want to look like you're wearing nylons, without actually wearing nylons.

Free Fingers -- a four-month-old collection of one-of-a-kind fingerless gloves -- lends a very chic hand to the fight against breast cancer.

Free Fingers founder Nina Wexler, a breast cancer survivor, turned to knitting as a sort of therapy during her treatment for the disease, and what started as a hobby has grown into a thriving business, with 100 percent of the profit from all of her "topless" gloves generously going to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF).

"I thought fingerless gloves would be a functional, yet stylish accessory," Wexler, who also sculpts, paints and has designed a collection of decoupage handbags for Bloomingdale's, tells StyleList.

"For me, creating something out of nothing is so exciting. I don't work from a pattern, I just make them up as I go along," she explains.

Wexler has made over 1,000 pairs of gloves and just recently added a men's collection to her assortment. All her gloves, which start at around $150 a pair, are made by hand out of luxurious yarns, such as cashmere, merino, silk and alpaca, and come in stunning color combinations.

Wexler is working with event and wedding planners, allowing brides to order custom-made gloves as bridesmaid's gifts or to be worn in winter weddings.

Her son, musician Freddy Wexler, is also getting in on the charity act. He wrote a tribute song for her, "Mom's Song," which will be available for download on iTunes starting March 15, with all the profits going to the BCRF.

"As Einstein said, 'out of adversity comes opportunity,' and I guess that's what I've created here," Wexler observes.
Celebrity skincare guru Tracie Martyn sets up camp in Hollywood, Calif. every year during Oscars week to give A-list clients her signature Red Carpet Facial before the big night.

This year, Martyn is working her magic on Kate Winslet, Sarah Jessica Parker and the one all eyes will be on, Sandra Bullock.

StyleList was lucky enough to catch up with the in-demand facialist to get a sneak peek into what it's like to be the go-to gal to some of the biggest names in the business before they're scrutinized by millions.

StyleList: Describe what the days leading up to the Oscars are like for you.
Tracie Martyn: Our whole LA trip is organized in a very secretive way. Nobody knows where we are staying until the day before their treatment. We have to ship all of the equipment from New York as the trademarked Red Carpet Facial is a gentle, yet very effective high-tech treatment involving a lot of beauty machines, primarily our proprietary "Resculptor" that generates a mild current to stimulate the skin, an amber LED machine and an Oxygen Infusion machine.

We are doing about 6 treatments a day, but it is complicated, as we are very careful to make sure that clients who see us are comfortable with each other if they are booked back-to-back. We have some male actors that we manage to get in without seeing anybody else.

We arrive on the Monday before the Oscars and start seeing clients on Tuesday. As it gets closer toward the end of the week, the schedule gets more out of control. Luckily, we are great at juggling things! Appointments may change slightly due to fittings [for dresses], but eventually things are down to a schedule that is very precise.

The clients arrive in their car and they get escorted to a private entrance where they take an elevator with restricted key access to my secret suite for the treatment. After 1 hour, they look and feel refreshed. They get escorted back to their car and it's like it never happened, except for the fact that they are "wearing" the Tracie Martyn Glow on the red carpet!

SL: Why do actresses come to you instead of a dermatologist?
TM: It's very simple. While some of my clients go to the best dermatologists in town, others do not. The clients that do go to the derm have had their last appointment about two weeks prior to the Oscars.

Simply because they want to look great on the red carpet, nobody wants to look as though they just had some injectables (Botox, Restylane, etc), lasers or peels, as those require downtime and can leave suspicious signs behind. In terms of a week before -- and certainly the day before -- we have to admit that our trademarked Red Carpet Facial has quite the monopoly in terms of beauty treatments!

SL: How many treatments do you give the stars before the Oscars?
TM: Because of their tight schedules (and ours is not much better, frankly), I mostly get to see nominees and presenters once before the ceremony, however, i did have the pleasure of seeing Oscar winner Kate Winslet last year more than once before she received her well-deserved award. She looked gorgeous to top it all off.

Some of my clients do come the day of the awards. It's surreal how we get to see them the same day on the TV screen and then shortly after at one of the parties!

SL: Are you planning on hitting any of the after-parties?
TM: While I have been invited to some of the most amazing parties, I am mostly preparing everybody else to go to the events, including Diane von Furstenberg for the annual VIP luncheon she hosts. She looked great after her Red Carpet Facial and even tweeted about it on InsideDVF.

SL: What do you feel when you see your celebrities walk down the red carpet looking beautiful?
TM: I am very thrilled that I was able to contribute somewhat to the success of this very special day. I know what it feels like to be confident about how you look and what a difference that makes in being able to enjoy the experience.
When it comes to hair, you can't get any bigger than uber-stylist Orlando Pita.

Pita has tousled the tresses of red hot celebs like Jennifer Aniston, Sarah Jessica Parker and Gwyneth Paltrow and top designers such as Michael Kors, Derek Lam, John Galliano and Miuccia Prada count on him to create looks for their shows and ad campaigns. Pita took a break from preparing for Paris fashion week to talk to StyleList about his Oscar hair predictions, spring trends and his new role on Bravo's "Shear Genius."

StyleList: What looks have you created for recent collections would translate well to the Oscar red carpet?
Orlando Pita: For Christian Dior Spring 2010, I did an updated Lauren Bacall look, a retro-Hollywood look, which always tends to pop up at the Oscars. I think Anne Hathaway would wear this look really well.

At Carolina Herrera's Spring 2010 show, the hair was upswept in the back in a loose twist, but what was great about that was I used a headband of beaded strands that had the same motion as the hair. The headband was inside the hair so the beads popped through the hair. I could see Meryl Streep in this kind of updo.

For Carolina Herrera's Fall 2010 show, I kept it very simple with a middle part and the hair hanging long, which I would love to see at the Oscars. I like it when the hair and the dress don't match--I like a bit of contrast. The Oscars are all about playing dress up, but you don't want to look too overdone.

Oscar de la Renta's Fall 2010 collection was inspired by socialites in the late '70s and early '80s. The hair was very layered, it was set with a curling iron and then brushed--very glamorous! An adapted version of that could work really well at the Oscars.

SL: What made you decide to do "Shear Genius?"
OP: I had never in a million years thought of being on a TV show, but the idea of being a mentor was really appealing to me. I'm always mentoring my team of hairdressers backstage at the shows and it's kind of the same thing I do on the show.

SL: What hair trends do you like for spring/summer every day wear?
OP: In the summer, hair has to be controlled a little bit, especially if somebody has frizzy hair or if their hair goes flat in the humidity. I like the half-up, half-down look--it helps control your hair and at the same time keeps it looking young and modern. We still keep seeing long hair as a trend at the shows, so it's not time to whack your hair off yet! There are a lot of different options for putting your hair up. You can either use an accessory or you can use your own hair and braid it into a cornrow in the front or do a little twist. It's also a great way to wear your hair if you're trying to grow your bangs out!

For more Orlando, catch him on "Shear Genius" every Wednesday at 10/9c on Bravo.
Orlando Pita Talks Oscars 2010 Hair, Spring Trends and 'Shear Genius' originally appeared on StyleList on Fri, 05 Mar 2010 08:00:00 EST.

Natalie Portman and "Top Chef" star Tom Colicchio teamed up with FEED Projects and the FEED Foundation to host a fundraiser to benefit The Hungry in America Project -- a documentary film and multimedia campaign whose mission is to raise awareness about hunger in the U.S.-- at Colicchio & Son's restaurant (Tom's latest New York City venture).

"For the last 25 years as a chef in New York, I've done fundraisers with organizations, such as City Harvest, Meals on Wheels, Share Our Strength and quite frankly, while we're all proud of the work we've done, it's not working," Colicchio, who's wife Lori Silverbush is one of the filmmakers on the project, told StyleList. "Hopefully with this film we can draw attention to the problem by showing what hunger looks like in our country and fix it.

Colicchio was a bit more tight-lipped when it came to where Top Chef 7, which begins shooting in April, will take place. "I can't say."

The evening also marked the launch of the FEED USA Project. "Up to this point we've only supported hunger abroad mainly through the United Nations World Food Programme, so tonight is our launch of the FEED USA campaign, where we start to focus on aiding hungry people in America as well as getting healthier school meals to kids in America," FEED co-founder Lauren Bush, who was wearing a chunky beaded necklace from Monique Pean, explained to StyleList.

Bush, who designs a clothing line called Lauren Pierce, is launching an atelier exclusively at Barneys, where you can design your own dress made of hand-dyed African fabrics from women in the Congo and Rwanda. "I'm definitely saving up for it for spring," her FEED partner Ellen Gustafson told us.

Natalie Portman, in a Dannijo necklace, was excited to try one of Colicchio's vegan specialties. "He does a delicious potato flatbread pizza!," the actress raved to StyleList.

By the looks of the packed house, vying for some of Colicchio and guest chef Rocco di Spirito's scrumptious appetizers, and late arrivers Jake Gyllenhaal and Katie Couric, we have a feeling the Hungry in America documentary will get the funding needed to complete filming.

WHAT WE THOUGHT: You knew it had to be the end of fashion week when the typically surly photographers in the pit joyfully harmonized to Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline" as the glitterati and assorted media found their seats at Tommy Hilfiger. It wasn't just the last show of the week, but the final one to take place at Bryant Park: After an 18 year run, fashion week is moving to Lincoln Center. "It's bittersweet," Hilfiger told StyleList.

Hilfiger's last collection under the big tent was jam-packed with the all-American sportswear we've come to expect from the mega-brand. "New American classics remixed, preppy with a pop, luxury fabrics in casual styles" is how Hilfiger broke it down. On the runway those concepts translated into safe, yet stylish looks that will undoubtedly please his legions of fans. What's not to love about a cashmere hoodie, sleeveless trench coat, or leather sequined skirt, after all?

Nodding to a seasonal trend, the ubiquitous city short also made several appearances. According to the program notes this collection aimed to retrofit Tommy Hilfiger's preppy heritage from 1985 for a dynamic new decade: we declare his mission accomplished.
WHAT WE THOUGHT: Christian Cota named his Fall collection "Look Again" -- and that's exactly what we did. The models, who sported gray bobs and stood as still as, well, mannequins, seemed to come from a future land. One beautiful "alien" wore a seamed charcoal cashmere coat that was out of this world, another a hand-painted purple organza strapless dress that would make anyone look like a star. Cota, working his Cubist theme, combined abstract patterns and an off-kilter asymmetry -- a tricky proposition, but somehow it worked.
Christian Cota Fall 2010 - Fashion Week Runway Review originally appeared on StyleList on Wed, 17 Feb 2010 22:24:00 EST.
INSPIRATION: The American Arts and Crafts movement

WHO WAS THERE: Peaches Geldof, Irina Pantaeva, Irina Lazareanu, top fashion editors and glam rockers

TOP LOOKS: Prints! Murano glass print and lurex dot chiffon dress worn with a mixed print shirt ; wine-colored jacquard knit cardigan, pomegranate print metallic silk jacquard blouse, and nouveau swirls print Lurex jacquard skirt; georgette and velvet dress with antique rose embroidery worn with a blush fox fur stole

ACCESSORIES: Knit hats (from James Coviello); fur stoles (from Adrienne Landau); textured tights (from Anna Sui's new leg wear line); snakeskin bags; amazing handcrafted necklaces and brooches incorporating actual tiles from Detroit's Pewabic Pottery, founded in 1903, created by Erickson Beamon for Anna Sui

WHAT WE THOUGHT: Anna Sui showed a knockout fall collection by combining a dizzying array of prints and fabrics--florals, fauna, stripes, swirls, and jacquard were all in use. A lesser talent might not have been able to pull it off, but Sui did--with flying colors. Speaking of which, the pretty, calming, palette featured cornflower blue, wine, cocoa, grapefruit, plum, and champagne hues. Ultra-feminine looks were perfectly paired with textured outerwear, like chunky cardigans, quilted jackets, and fur vests and boleros--we call that a crafty move on Sui's part.
Anna Sui Fall 2010 - Fashion Week Runway Review originally appeared on StyleList on Wed, 17 Feb 2010 21:38:00 EST.
WHAT WE THOUGHT: "Godard's artsy, chic women serve as my muse this season, with their clever combinations of bold hues, clean, modern silhouettes and feminine, cool attitude," says Milly designer Michelle Smith in her liner notes. The collection hit all those points and then some.

The color palette of crimson, navy, black and ivory were hues that every gamine in the making should have as wardrobe staples. We love how Smith mixes rich fabrics together to get an artfully layered look. The black rabbit fur luggage lock jacket embodies the effortlessly chic look the designer was striving for.
WHAT WE THOUGHT: Ethical questions aside, Dennis Basso makes most women who never thought of adding fur to their wardrobe want to swath themselves in a luxurius pelt. His fall collection included combos of fur, feathers, silk, alligator trim, hand beading and wool metallic fabrics. He threw in some sporty military touches and chic skirts and dresses, because we can't go naked underneath our furs.
Dennis Basso - Fashion Week Fall 2010 Runway Review originally appeared on StyleList on Tue, 16 Feb 2010 18:08:00 EST. WHAT WE THOUGHT: Max Azria was in the mood to pare things down for fall. His streamlined minimalism came in the form of boxy shoulders, structured dresses and jackets and a palette of mineral tones and black.

The platform wedge boots gave each look a vaguely futuristic feel. The black ribbed dresses at the end were a nod to one of Azria's other lines, Hervé Léger.
INSPIRATION: The full fall wardrobe for the uber glamazon

WHO WAS THERE: Annalynne McCord, Christina Hendricks, Kelly Killoren Bensimon, Robert Verdi

TOP LOOKS: Bourdeaux sequined one-shoulder gown; blush organza strapless peony gown; black wool sweater vest over a black tissue long-sleeve jersey top and pewter glazed lace leggings; black wool sweater tunic; gray wool wrap coat over smoke printed sequin leggings.

ACCESSORIES: Sparkly drop necklaces, cuffs, over-the-knee black stiletto boots, peep-toe pumps, quilted bags with chain straps.

WHAT WE THOUGHT: Designers Mark Badgley and James Mischka have spent countless seasons turning out some of the most show-stopping frocks out there. And though this season was no exception, it was their daywear and outerwear looks that really killed it.

Some of our faves included a cream faux fur wool vest with sequins paired with a suede skirt, a smoke printed sequin stretch wool dress and a smoke wool capelet jacket. We have a feeling their leggings--done in leather, lace, sequins and jacquard--will become de rigeur off duty wear for more than a few socialites and starlets. And as for those red carpet gowns they do so well, there were plenty of sparkly one-shouldered and dramatic georgette numbers to satiate all of the celebrity stylists who have Badgley Mischka on speed dial.
Badgley Mischka - Fashion Week Fall 2010 Runway Review originally appeared on StyleList on Tue, 16 Feb 2010 17:49:00 EST. WHAT WE THOUGHT: Barbara Tfank, who has a background in costume design, showed a collection that had the feeling of a period film. Dramatic toppers like opera and swing coats featured details such as box pleats and portrait necklines. Tfank's sumptuous palette was directly influenced by Dufy and included jeweled hues of cerulean, canard, teal green, midnight blue, charcoal gray and aquamarine. Tfank described her collection as being "fun to wear." We couldn't have said it better.
WHAT WE THOUGHT: Tadashi Shoji's celebrity clientele -- everyone from Rachel McAdams to Mary J. Blige -- will not be disappointed with his Fall 2010 collection. For starlets who like to play it safe, there were plenty of delicate black lace dresses, including a strapless A-line belted number with a sand silk underlay, and an off-the-shoulder look.

The press-hungry types can choose between a blue and green color blocked one-shoulder dress and a metallic silk draped front gown. And for Sarah Jessica Parker wannabes, the closing look -- a ballerina pink fan pleated lace confection -- will definitely do the trick.
WHAT WE THOUGHT: You can count on Jill Stuart to make clothes that pretty, young things will want to wear, as evidenced by the Hollywood starlets in her front row. For fall, she hit on a few different trends also making their ways down other runways including the early 1990s and school-girl looks. But her high points were pieces that any 20- or 30-something gal would love to score for fall: gorgeous maxi coats, ultra-cool jumpsuits and knits that struck the perfect combination of sexy and cozy.
Jill Stuart - Fashion Week Fall 2010 Runway Review originally appeared on StyleList on Mon, 15 Feb 2010 18:06:00 EST. INSPIRATION: Chinese warrior and military suits. Strong silhouettes with a tough, chic edge. Long sleeves, high necks, strong shoulders with short skirts.
TOP LOOKS: Crimson halter dress with gold leather chain embroidery; black crocodile embossed velvet dress with smoke and gold chain embroidery; navy chiffon halter gown with black lacquered braided belts; black and nude pleated tulle gown with nude floral embroidery.
WHAT WE THOUGHT: When you think Monique Lhuillier, you think red carpet. And her Fashion Week Fall 2010 collection--full of dramatic evening gowns and sexy, body-con dresses--will undoubtedly face more than a few paparazzi flashes. Deep crimson reds and dragon printed jacquards reflected the Chinese warrior theme Monique was feeling, while the lace, tulle and chiffon were classic Hollywood glam. The frayed tweed suits, as beautiful as they were, were a little too derivative of Chanel for our taste. The slate metallic lace column gown with a scalloped neckline, on the other hand, was Monique at her strongest.
Monique Lhuillier - Fashion Week Fall 2010 Runway Review originally appeared on StyleList on Mon, 15 Feb 2010 17:44:00 EST. WHAT WE THOUGHT: If anyone can do raunchy Western wear and get away with it, it's Betsey Johnson. Her shows always have an element of audience participation and as Kelly Osbourne opened the show in a "double barrel bustle coat," the raucous catcalling began. The looks were divvied up into 13 categories, including 'Banditos,' 'Gamblers,' 'Vagabonds' and 'Brothlettes'

There were crinolines, bustles and flounce aplenty. The parade of costume-y fare would leave the average teenager/twenty-something Betsey-ophile at a loss. But then came the 'Madame' group -- the kind of classic floor-length black prom dresses that make Betsey the go-to designer for high school juniors and seniors. One thing's for sure, we'll never get tired of seeing Betsey do her signature cartwheel down the runway.
DESIGNER: Rachel Comey

INSPIRATION: Hipster housewife from the '70s

WHO WAS THERE: Hipsters from the '10s

TOP LOOKS: Black-and white printed pantsuit; green one-shouldered top with tweedy pants; red one-shouldered dress; loud printed pants with elastic waistbands; granny-ish cardigans

ACCESSORIES: Fur purses, ankle socks, chunky sandals, scarf with pockets

WHAT WE THOUGHT: As the band Hex Message blared in the background and the 1970s tinged, granny-chic looks came down the runway, you would be forgiven for thinking that you were in a club in Williamsburg instead of a gallery space in Chelsea. This bright collection was a real contrast to the subdued neutrals debuting elsewhere this season. Comey's printed pantsuits, tweedy cardigans and puffy-shouldered blouses were the types of things seasoned vintage shoppers probably already have in their closets. For those of us who have a hard time mixing and matching prints, one of Comey's pieces will be just what you need.
Rachel Comey Fall 2010 - Runway Review originally appeared on StyleList on Sat, 13 Feb 2010 13:39:00 EST. DESIGNER: Cynthia Rowley

INSPIRATION: Forest nymphettes in a winter fairy tale

TOP LOOKS: Multi-colored fringe skirt paired with a long-sleeve; suede warm-up pants worn with a lace shell; storm coat with stretch suede skinny sweat pants

ACCESSORIES: Platform ankle boots with lobster claw heels, puffer gloves, puffer scarves, puffer boots, bags with soft, puffy shoulder straps, fringe bags

WHO WAS THERE: Maggie Rizer, fashion photog Nigel Barker, Cory Kennedy, Veronica Webb, Justin Theroux, and Rowley's adorable toddler daughter sitting on her dad's lap.

WHAT WE THOUGHT: With bare-branched trees to set the tone, Rowley's models were dressed to face frigid weather in style. Feminine elements like lace, fringe and tassels played nicely against the oversized coats and motocross gloves. Bright primary colors were a sweet hange to the rust and jewel-tones typical on the fall runways. We especially loved the outerwear element she gave to the accessories: Boots, gloves and scarves made from puffer fabric were both whimsical and practical.
Cynthia Rowley Fall 2010 - Runway Review originally appeared on StyleList on Fri, 12 Feb 2010 23:42:00 EST. Designer: Ports 1961

Inspiration: Art, science and machine

Top looks: Purple jersey top with matching silk trousers, a sage glass necklace and black militia boots; mulberry jacquard cape coat, mulberry silk dress and black pumps; ginger knit dress with leather belt, monocrome leather hat and motocross gloves.

Accessories: Ceramic necklaces, colored fishnets, metallic oxfords, leather hats, capes, wood mosaic necklaces, gauzy headbands, laser-cut, rubberized epaulettes

Who was there: Olivia Palermo, Whitney Port

What we thought: There's been talk lately of the death of trends, but Tia Cibani's collection of wearable art will prove that wrong. Her ceramic necklaces and rubberized epaulette collars showed true ingenuity in the accessories category. The artful mix of leather, lame and silk with more jersey and tweed equaled an ultra-wearable collection of original looks. Her sculptural dresses would be perfect on the red carpet for more avant-guard, fashion-forward types.
