Our kick off show this season meant going out to Queens on the 7 train to The Foundry, for a group catwalk of independent designers. Hosted by Subdivision Boutique, the show was enjoyably informal and unpretentious. Shown above, the 2 level space is a stellar location with impressive brick and metal architecture. On the first level, each designer had space for a small trunk show.

One of the cooler fashion week invitations this season comes courtesy of 3.1 Phillip Lim. We did a little Photoshop work to obscure the rsvp info (he's in the Bryant Park tents, part of the official Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week program). The notable detail work seen here is that the card stock was run through a sewing machine to create the red, ribbon-esque pattern. We think we can even make out marks left by the feed dogs. It's simple and elegant, exactly what we expect from Phillip Lim. Maybe red pops of color will be part of this season's motif?

Exquisite Corpse is a type of art exercise with several contributors who know nothing of each other's work. It's like folding a paper into thirds, with three people each drawing a head, torso or legs. The result usually is some alien or oddity. We used to play during study hall.

He'll also design a limited-edition collection for Levi's, due to hit Levi.com just in time for the next New York Fashion Week in September, '09.
