Refinery 29 is wondering who's going to buy it.

Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti had a star-studded show - The crowd, filled with celebs like Peaches Geldof and Amanda Peet, might've been more impressive than the clothes, but maybe it didn't matter -- everyone was too busy having fun to notice.

Alexandre Herchcovitch got all two-faced - Part of his show was full of volume and color, with beaded dresses that were questionable winter wear, but the second half was comprised of an entirely different look. Which half do you think was the winner? Check it out.

Talk about inspiration - Kate Mulleavy of Rodarte shared what really gets her creative juices going (and we hope you weren't expecting classic piano and butterflies!).

Trovata Sports a Prep School Look - Reminiscent of "Gossip Girl," the show featured schoolgirl skirts and ribbon details -- Blair Waldorf would be proud.

Refinery 29 Has the Fashion Week Scoop originally appeared on StyleList on Fri, 20 Feb 2009 17:29:00 EST. Why was he drawn to the blonde wig coat? "I think it is ... hysterical. It is totally hysterical," he said with a grin, as Yigal-clad Waris came up to the editor and the two exchanged a serious man hug.

Also front row was Genevieve Jones, sporting a Dolce & Gabbana frock and her own gold, safety pin-inspired earrings, who said she was at the show to support her friend Pamela Love, the designer of the African-inspired jewelry pieces for Yigal's f/w collection. When we asked Pamela about her outfit, she laughed, "I'm wearing Yigal pants, the rest is crap." Well, if that's true of a vintage Black Flag tee, a vegan leather jacket, and hoards of her own fantastic jewelry, then we say crap is the new black!

The show, styled by Kate Young, featured girls that seemed a bit brooding, but all enchanting, in smoky eye makeup in a tough, yet coy attitude. Bold silhouettes paired with feminine details, ruled the show, and our top three favorite pieces included a geometric jacquard coat, a purple one-sleeved party dress, and a black Heishi beaded bolero. Loved.

See more photos from the show on Refinery 29

FALL 2009 FASHION WEEK - Yigal Azrouël is Brooding But Enchanting originally appeared on StyleList on Tue, 17 Feb 2009 14:58:00 EST. And while the First Lady was not in attendance at the designer's show, there were plenty of other tastemakers on the scene, including Lynn Yaeger and Kate Lanphear. But onto the clothes: Lots of pretty cocktail frocks and gowns, including a stunning navy silk tulle number worn by Karlie Kloss (we can already see Michelle glamming it up in at a black tie gala). Heading to more adventurous territory, there were the feathered vests and skirts, which would look right at home on front-row attendee Olivia Palermo. We caught The City star for a brief chat after the show, in which she clued us in on her Fashion Week routine. Does it involve a special manicure or a trip to the dermatologist? Nope. "I get ready the same way I get ready every other day," the Uptown girl said. Alright, but that's because "every other day" involves three hours of beauty prep time for the MTV camera ... right?

See more photos and Fashion Week coverage at Refinery 29

FALL 2009 FASHION WEEK - Jason Wu Makes Pretty Clothes For First Ladies and Uptown Divas originally appeared on StyleList on Tue, 17 Feb 2009 12:05:00 EST. Wearing a sculptural patent vest with big shoulders, short gloves (the miniskirt of gloves-they didn't extend past her knuckles), and long blonde bangs to the bridge of her nose, she sang with her band the Duke Spirit and fist-pumped to a crowd of champagne sippers and McQ for Target perusers last night. Held in a hangar on the cusp of the West Side Highway, the space was industrial and made even more so with pseudo graffiti, fences, and Target ads postered all around. Racks of McQ's line of magenta zig-zag leggings, and black jumpsuits bordered the space and every gal was smitten, as evidenced by the queue for try-on, which was jaw-droppingly long. Spotted in the crowd were the adorable Rose Byrne and the pseudo DvF employee Whitney Port with her entourage.

See more photos from the show at Refinery 29
FALL 2009 FASHION WEEK - Fans Rock Out For Target's New McQ Line originally appeared on StyleList on Tue, 17 Feb 2009 08:01:00 EST. The palette mixed deep plum, heather gray, sharp black, plaid, and a streak of leopard throughout some impecably pleated trousers, striking oversized coats, and sublime little mini dresses. Aside from the collection's gothic elegance, we'll certainly look forward to the Italian and French fabrics at recession-friendly prices.

Catherine Holstein on Refinery 29

FALL 2009 FASHION WEEK - Catherine Holstein Does Glamorous Goth for Fall/Winter ... and We Love It! originally appeared on StyleList on Fri, 13 Feb 2009 18:00:00 EST. Cate ... err ... sorry!
Catherine and I are the oldest friends! I love to shop with her because she has a phenomenal sense of style, and it really comes through in this collection.

If you designed a clothing line how close to Catherine's would it be?
It would definitely not be as cool or as fashionable.

Which of the newest pieces are are we most likely to see you wearing?
Well, I'm actually wearing one of her shirts right now, not sure if it's new but other than that I love the low cut, black crushed velvet dress.

Jess Stam on Refinery 29

FALL 2009 FASHION WEEK - A Minute With: Model Jess Stam at the Catherine Holstein Show originally appeared on StyleList on Fri, 13 Feb 2009 17:49:00 EST. We say, we loved the underwear as outwear inspired pieces in the designer's fall/winter '09 collection. While we had been seeing this movement on the street, Roy responded to the trend's relevance and added a good dose of elegance. Bra tops and sheer-sided dresses paired with strong shoulders or pointy Manolo Blahniks ("venomous" as Roy described) kept the look ready for the "strong woman" Roy is always designing for.

Model-photographer Helena Christensen remarked, "Many of the pieces would be beautiful to dance in. Spied at both the Catherine Holstein and Rachel Roy shows, this dark and probably hard-to-pull-off look is reminiscent of both Marlene Dietrich and Siouxsie Sioux. As glam-goth-goddess as it is, we're still on the fence as to whether or not we'd venture to the dark side. Designer Wendy Mullin calls it the "purest form of her vision come alive," which can be seen in the white and pastel Asian print adapted from the drapes in a Guy Bourdin photo. Mullin's vision was so distinct she even constructed the music with help of Beastie Boys' Adam Horovitz. The multi-cultural mashup with a nautical twist is either reality-based fantasy or fantasy-based reality, but either way, we love what we've got comin' to us -- it's delicate, well "built," and super easy to wear.
Continue reading FALL 2009 FASHION WEEK - Built By Wendy's Multi-Cultural Mash-Up Gets a Nautical Twist for Fall

FALL 2009 FASHION WEEK - Built By Wendy's Multi-Cultural Mash-Up Gets a Nautical Twist for Fall originally appeared on StyleList on Fri, 13 Feb 2009 15:00:00 EST.
