We're doing a second Dress of the Day today, partially because our motivation melted in the late-June heat yesterday, and partially because we couldn't wait until tomorrow to gawk at this silk handkerchief masquerading as a mini dress.

The Virginia Silk Mini Dress by designer Rory Beca is a little wrap style dress, and by "little," we mean "extremely super tiny," that is held closed in the front with a snap button at the crossover V neckline and a solid sash belt that ties.

Apparently, there is an elastic waistband that would be helpful for those of us who might need a little bit of give around the waist, but really, if that were the case, we shouldn't be wearing a dress that falls a mere 17" from the natural waistline.

The dress features side slash pockets which we assume is only for show. If you put anything in those pockets, they'd drag the dress right off your body.

Tracy Reese is known for femininity, with super-sweet dresses and lady-like lacy skirts. This dress, however, is a little bit of a departure from the frilly frills with a more aggressive color in bright sunny yellow, and a somewhat vintage-inspired plaid pattern. The Linen Strapless dress is made of of a silk/cotton blend fabric (natural fiber perfect for keeping cool in summer!) and features a wide waistband with a sharp contrasting pattern. More than anything, though, the dress has pockets, and you know how much we love the utility of a good set of pockets.

The dress would be perfect with a pair of patent leather Mary Janes.

We have a confession to make.

Ever since investing all of $40 on a cheap jersey maxi dress a few weeks ago, we have been unable to give our attention to anything else. Yes, we are obsessed with the maxi dress.

Of course, the Print Tube dress by T-bags is nowhere near a mere $40, but the brick and blue multi-print rayon dress is worth the $218 price. The dress has ruching and an overly at the bust and falls 51" to the floor, perfect for a pair of thongs on a tall girl, or platform wedge sandals on those of us who are not quite so tall. Because the dress is strapless, it can work for evening, too.

It doesn't mean we have to be uncomfortable in a pair of skin-pinching, back-breaking stiletto heels. filippa k boob dressIt would have been nice if the name of this Multi-color "Boob" dress by Filippa K were some hint, some promise of, well, any help it could provide for us in that area.

Unfortunately, the dress has nothing to do with "support" or "enhancement."

Fortunately, the purple (bloom), taupe (bark) and white color blocked dress has everything to do with staying stylishly cool through the heat of summer. Strapless means it can be worn out in the sunshine without the thret of tan marks, 100% viscose is cool to the touch, and the ruched waist makes the dress easy and comfortable to wear.

houseofspy bubble dressWe tucked away the color purple, along with My Little Pony and mermaids, when we graduated from elementary school.

However, with purple a prominent color on designers' palettes this season (is that too much alliteration for a Sunday morning?), we've been paying closer attention to it and its many shades. We love the Gabby Bubble Dress, which is simply identified as "purple," but is really a lighter lilac in our eyes. The dress with the subtly bubble silhouette comes from House of Spy, the line from former biology student Wendy Wong. The fabric is 70% silk, 30% cotton, and 100% made for late Spring. The halter strap is detachable.

grace sun tank waterfall dressThank God it's Friday, because we weren't sure how long we could last without having a reason to wear the Tank Waterfall Dress by Grace Sun.

The dress is made of 100% silk in a bright fuschia, called bougainvillea (a flower that we could never pronounce). Everything about the dress if fun and flirty, from the asymmetrical ruffle on the side to the little tie at the waist. The catalog description says the dress tends to run a little big, but we're inclined to stay with our size, since we kind of like that loose hanging fit. Since we've seen this color all season paired with black, we like a pair of black strappy sandals and little patent leather clutch.

hussy margarita dressAh, how could we not love a dress from a designer line called "Hussy?"

Strangely enough, as saucy as designer Marie Hatzis' line's name is, the Margarita dress is everything but. The color is called a soft "cloud," and subtly printed fabric is made of 90% smooth silk and 10% lurex for a sheen. There's a feminine ruffle at the wide, modestly scooped neckline. Just about the only thing that could potentially make this dress fit with its name Hussy is the hemline. The dress is short short short, but a pair of sweet Mary Janes (with a 5" heel of course) will balance.

lux nashville skyline dressWe always love the timelessness of a shirtdress, and Urban Outfitters takes the classic silhouette and makes it feminine with the Lux Nashville Skyline Dress. The dress has short, puffed sleeves, tiny ruffles along the front placket and on the sleeves, and a sash that ties into a bow on the back. We also like how the dress is styled in the photo with the addition of a belt. Our choice, though, would be wider, and whatever happens to match our 5" heels.

The dress also has a little bit of country with its black and white gingham print. The buttons don't go down all the way, so we'd definitely wear this dress over a pair of jeans, leggings, or slip a slip under the dress.

Michael Kors' Kors Tisbury Pump is just the thing for this temporary condition -- made of suede, it's the perfect material to take us from Spring to Summer, and will work all through summer with the cut-out sides. The heel stands at 4½" on a ¼" platform in the front.

We know there are plenty of shoes out there that fall into the eco category, but whereas clothing has gone way beyond burlap sacks to "eco chic" with pretty bamboo tops and dresses and denim made from organic cotton, shoes have not kept stride. We had quite a time finding stylish -- hey, we'd have even taken just "cute" -- shoes that are also friendly with the earth.

So we give up, and have surrendered ourselves to Natalie Portman's vegan line for Te Casan, which some of us found a little uninspired/uninspiring. However, given that these are probably the only shoes appropriate for today WITH HEELS, we like the Plath pink satin pump with a little chiffon pom pom at the front. The heel is a mere 3¾", but hey, we'll take what we can get.

kate mossIt was pretty shocking to us when Kylie Minogue took the top spot as Glamour's Best Dressed Woman last year; not because we thought Kylie didn't deserve it, but because Kate Moss has previously been the perennial winner. This year however, Kate has gotten the crown back as Glamour's Best Dressed Woman for 2008.

Rounding out the Top Five on the list for their style are (in order): British actress Sienna Miller (2nd place), Scarlett Johansson (3rd place), Rachel Bilson (4th place), and Jennifer Aniston (5th place). We wouldn't argue with their being on the list, but we do have to wonder how Rachel Bilson and Jennifer Aniston made it into the Top Five.

The Channing Patent Sneaker comes in either orange or yellow, features the Tory Burch cutout logo over the rubber toe, and like any pair of sneaks, has a flot, rubber sole. Of course, the love that the top is shiny patent leather -- perfect for running down aisle 8 for that bag of Kettle Chips.

tommy bahama blue coral dressNever in a million years did we think we would ever wear something from Tommy Bahama, a brand that we have historically associated with 55 year old wealthy retired men in Orange County whose favorite past time is deep sea fishing (don't ask us how we built that image in our heads - we just did).

However, the Blue Coral dress, though not completely changing our idea, at least gives us a reason to perhaps try Tommy Bahama. The navy blue halter dress has ivory embroidered embellishments at the high waistline (more like the bottom of the bustline), and the hem falls 31" from the natural neckline. We love the femininity of the full skirt and the embroidery detai that are paired with a little bit of a plunging neckline. We like this dress paired with comfortably cute flats for a Sunday afternoon brunching and shopping with Mom and Dad.

m missoni zig zag striped dressIf there's one thing we can do to make ourselves feel like Spring even when it's 40 degrees outside (yes, we exaggerate, we know, but if you lived in LA you'd be mad at Mother Nature, too), it's dressing in Spring flingy clothes.

We love the colors on the Zig Zag Striped Dress (it may have something to do with Tiffany, but we won't admit that out blog), and still can't get over the fact that it's made by Missoni. The signature Italian knit designer has updated its styles with color-blocking and a new shape. The dress features a scalloped hem that falls 37½" from the shoulder, giving you enough room to show off your early-glowing legs in a pair of silver or gray strappy sandals for a casual evening, or patent white flats for a slightly dressed up daytime.

members onlyRemember those jackets -- those thin polyester (were they polyester? we don't even remember), with the standing, tabbed collar, knit cuffs and trim at the waist, and of course,the signature label that said "Members Only?" We might not recollect all that well because it was a style intended for the boys in the '80s, but the label is back, and this time, it's for the ladies.

If we recall correctly, Members Only jackets didn't cost more than a reasonable twenty bucks, and even with inflation over 20 years, we don't see that a jacket would be more than say, $75. However, Members Only is now somewhat of a luxury retro label, with jackets ranging near a thousand dollars. Granted, the jackets are made of leather, but still - nearly $1,000?!

Hey, if you don't want to go all out with a leather jackets, Members Only has departed from just jacket designs and has vests as well as dresses, which a re slightly more reasonably priced.

As much as we hate to admit it, we do like fashion that is functional, and the pieces out of Contexture Design Workshop are not only fashionable and functional, they're also friendly to the environment. The Bentwood Coffee Cuff is made of reclaimed wood and is shaped like those disposable paper "cuffs" that go around hot coffee cups. The cuff can absolutely be used to keep your hands from burning on your morning java, and when you're done, the cuff can be worn as, well, a cuff. fitflopWhen we think about shoes, the last thing we want to think about is function, and even less so, about functional fitness. We almost never work out simply because shoes for working out are so, you know, ugly.

However, we think we've found the answer in the FitFlop, a pair of flip flops that everyone and their mothers (which makes us a worry a little), has been talking about. You're going to be throwing on a pair of cheap flip flops to run your bazillion errands this weekend anyway, so why not, put on pair of flipflops that will actually improve core muscle strength, absorb shock on feet, knees and back, and strengthen and tone muscles in feet, legs, buttocks, stomach and back. Wearing these every weekend for the next month might get you in shape for summer beach wear without having to do a thing.
