Our friends over at Engadget have a post on Hussein Chalayan's Spring / Summer 2007 line of women's clothing. When I dug around on Google I found a link to a video of his catwalk show which I'll go ahead and tell you gets a little NSFW around the 1:40 mark. With our entire world going towards a 'dynamic' idea (my SUV can change from a stiff ride to a plush one on the fly; Cole Haan shoes now incorporate Nike Air technology; cell phones double as MP3 players), Chalayan's designs push this into the fashion world. The NSFW clip mentioned earlier shows a hat that is a dress that rolls up into the brim. One dress incorporates Swarovski crystals that appear seemingly from nowhere. All the designs are very avant-garde and I don't think anyone would wear them anywhere or at any time, but they are definitely interesting.

Ken Downing, fashion director for Neiman Marcus, gives us a great rundown on the runway in NYC. In college, one of the first things you learn to do is how to skim long papers for the substance of the argument. If you're smart, you'll read the first sentence of each paragraph. I'll save you the reading part: dresses are back, and so is black patent leather. Shiny things are in, yellow is new, and finish it all off with a very feminine blouse (does anyone make masculine blouses?). So there you have it - fashion week in about 300 words.

I was under the impression that the "Rugby" Ralph Lauren store wasn't doing so well, but there is a new location going in in Dallas and two of the other stores are having bands come to play so maybe things aren't as bad as they were at first. If you're not familiar with the idea, the Rugby store carries certain rugby styled polos that are not available in the store. So you buy these shirts and choose which patches you want on them and they stitch on your patch to make your shirt unique. Shirts run $68 and patches range from $8 - $24.

Did you read my post the other day about the Ralph Lauren women's fashion show and think to yourself "that's great and all, but I don't wear women's clothes." Well, that's probably for the best, so here's the men's Purple Label selection for the Fall. Online is a video, the ability to shop by looks, and a preview of what is available as store exclusives. All looks are very sharp, but why must the Purple Label models all have that horrible fake greasy hair?

Couldn't make it to fashion week but still want to see what Ralph Lauren has in store for next Spring? Polo.com was kind enough to put video on their site from the runway in New York City. Mr. Lauren had this to say about the Spring looks, "I was inspired by a strong, sophisticated woman with eclectic individual style and an exotic, independent spirit." Especially stunning, in my opinion, is look 21 - a simple sheer-on-sheer black gown.
