TSA-friendly cosmetics

It's a tough time indeed to be a flying fashionista. After the UK airline terrorist plot was exposed on August 10, it's suddenly verboten to bring gels, fluids, lotions and other necessities anywhere beyond the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) screeners and metal detectors.

I appreciate the need for security, but no hand lotion on a plane? Are you kidding?

Fortunately, as Anna Bahney reports in the New York Times, there is hope. Bahney points out that the rules allow for a carry-on cosmetic kit if -- and only if -- that cosmetic kit is an easily screened, transparent bag.

As for the contents of that bag ... well, you'd better stick to powders, sticks and wipes, like $6.95 Toothfresh Powdered Toothpaste in lieu of your $3 Crest. Bahney has a long list of suggestions for how to fly in style here.
