Blame stonewashed, high-waisted jeans on Kate Moss
Filed under: Stores We Love, Clothing, Celebrities with Style
Are high-waisted, 1989-ish stonewashed jeans going to be the skinny jeans of next season? I've been hearing about this trend since last winter, but now that Kate Moss chose to wear a pair to the announcement of her new plan to design for Topshop, I'm afraid it's actually going to catch on. These jeans, like skinny jeans, already have a one-word nickname of their own -- "mom" jeans.
I'll try to be objective and think of at least one positive quality of this new "mom" jean. Hmmm... they look like they'd be less drafty in the winter?
I'm all for higher waistlines if you're uncomfortable in or unflattered by low-rise jeans. But just know this: when you combine a higher waistline, looser legs, and that light stonewashed color, you're adding lots of visual volume to your lower half. And added volume isn't something that most women I know are looking for in a pair of pants.

The only reason designers would revert back to high waisted jeans is for money. I'll never wear them again, they aren't flattering on anyone.

Well, I am sooooo tired of all these low rise pants, and seeing everyone's bits and pieces on display whether you want to see it OR NOT! Plus, many of the girls wearing them are either too young, and often too old, I'm surprised by all the women over 40 wearing these low rise. A little modesty goes a long way. Not to mention, low rise pant doing nothing for your rear view at all.

Being a short woman with a short waist, the higher waist jeans suck! I will stick with the lower rise jeans.Wider legs is a good thing with the low rise.

I'm a Great Grandmother who has watched styles come &go & then return. The low waisted style i've tried to but my choice is the hig waisted stonewash because i think it looks unattractive when you bend.I also think styles have alot to do with different shapes,if we look nice in them i say wear them.

In my opinion, the women over 40 wearing low rise, may not be able to find any (at the waist jeans to fit them). For example, I am 59 years old, weigh 100 lbs, 5' 5" tall, and have not been able to find any jeans to fit for 5 years) I am on my last pair of Levi 550 (at the waist or just below the waist jeans) that are practically worn out. I wrote a letter to Levi with no resolution to this problem. I have tried on 100 pairs of low rise jeans and at a size 1 or 3, they slide off the hips. Are there any other women out there in the same situation? PLEASE HELP!! Also, there are no dress slacks out there that fit either!!

I'm 49 and I'm 5'5 178 pounds (chubby). I have worn low rise jeans for years. If you shop around for that one good pair of jeans you will find one that fits, you just have to spend a little more $$. Levi's have never fit me. Try the nicer department stores at the mall like Macy's or Dillards or similar stores. I hate high waisted jeans and pants They do make one's bottom look HUGE. I can't imagine my daughter wearing high rise either. They are so ugly on every figure. If the waist is just below your belly button does not show your butt. Any low rise slacks or jeans make you have a smaller butt. Pay attention look around. If high rise pants are so in style, why am I still buying low rise at places like Express and the GAP? Sorry, high skinny are ugly even if you are 90 pounds.

I am short and I do not choose low low wasted. I just wear regular boot cut, and if they are low I wear a belt. I don't care your shape those jeans are plain ugly. Then top it off with stonewash. I would expect this, though, I do not normally like Kate's style.

I tend to think that just below the waist jeans are the best choice for women my age (the higher the waist the more "butt" there is!) lol I'm trying to minimize that, not make more of it!

I dont think anyone looks good in the super low rise jeans! Glad the higher waist jeans will be back this year-I think too it depends on if your short waisted or not , what you where with them then.

I have thighs and a J-Lo ass(well, close, not quite as huge..), and my sister has a belly. Low rise looks like shit on us. It's not "grandma", it's making sure your ass crack isn't exposed. If designers want to put out new trends for the anorexic, fine and dandy, but don't go and get rid of all the other types of jeans and make it damned impossible to find new ones. I don't have any jeans. I have been unable to buy them for many years, starting with that stupid low rise trend. Especially when they got so God-dammed low cut that only a 10 year old with a concave ass could wear them without showing their crack. Then those dammed stretch jeans came along. The style got more wearable, but finding a pair that isn't that cheap-shit stretch material that doesn't hold anything in, is impossible. Now these fucking skinny jeans, which I don't care which pair you wear, if you are a pear shape, they are not attractive(I'm not a pear shape cos I have huge tetas, but those jeans sure do their damndest to make me look like a pear shape..), and next year these stone washed jeans.
Perhaps the year after, when the US finally caves and follows the trend of using healthy models, they will see how shitty normal, and fat, people look in tight, light colored, clothing.

I've been waiting for the fashionistas to phase out low-rise jeans. On people with less-than-perfect bodies, they look ridiculous. Any belly roll will roll out over the top. I'm with Sandra O: when I wear the 2 pairs of "mid-rise" jeans I've bought, they keep slipping down (and I'm curvy), plus they make me look heavier. I know that "What Not to Wear" thinks they're great, but I part company with them on this. Sandra, I've found that LEE RIDERS, natural waist, straight cut or boot cut, stretch jeans slim my figure while hugging it in the right places! WalMart carries them. Good luck!

I am middle aged and also am glad they will get rid of the
low rise jeans. I find at the waist jeans(sorry mom jeans)
flatter my figure the best. I am 5'3 around 128 lbs.
What they do is hold my tummy in ( where I gather most of
my extra fat). I then just wear a long top over the jeans
and no one knows how high the jeans come up.
