Seven Days of Style: You are the Haute Hostess

Filed under: Haute Home, Accessories, Shoes, Hair Care, Cosmetics

stylish hostessYou're a food lover who can turn out a Holiday dinner that would make Giada di Laurentiis oversized bobble-head shrink to normal. However, dinner won't taste as good if you're unshowered, wearing sweats, and running around in un-pedicured bare feet. Styledash is here to help you make sure that you're an haute hostess this Holiday season.

Sunday - No reason to risk staining your designer duds, so slip into this playful little number that looks like a halter dress but really is an apron. Unless you plan to expose your Hanky Pankies, wear a comfortable outfit underneath.

Monday - Silicone oven mitts are absolutely remarkable, but let's face it, they're as pretty as you are when you first wake up in the morning. Save those for your Friday Night-In baking, and use oven mitts from Deadly Squire that come in cute patterned fabrics.

Tuesday - Who cares what the Holiday Hair Haters say about the pony tail. Clearly, they haven't spent 72 hours straight cooking, cleaning, and thn looking fabulous in front of two dozen dinner guests. Pull your hair back with snag-free elastic bands to keep your hair out of your face and out of your food. Besides, how else will you show off those gorgeous, sparkling-for-the-Holidays earrings?

Wednesday - You're giving yourself a steam facial over the stove, then a dry sauna treatment every time you open the oven door to check on the Roast. You'll be sweating, er rather, "glowing," and all that extreme temperature change will kick your oil glands into overdrive. Hide a packet of Shiseido oil-blotting papers in your apron pocket and dab away before you go back out into the dining room with a smile.

Thursday - If I had it my way, I'd be stomping around my kitchen in 4" stilettos, but let's be real. Stilettos don't match an open-back apron! Better to stick with flats, which will likely save you a trip to the chiropractor or the orthopedic surgeon.

Friday - Your guests will oooh and oooh again when they see your set of stemless wine glasses from Riedel. Trust me, it may look fashion forward, but they're really just functional -- much easier for your guests to balance, and much easier on your carpets when they don't spill a drop.

Saturday - You'd love to wear a fabulous cocktail ring, but with all that handwashing you're doing in the kitchen between poultry and vegetables and back to poultry, keep the designers rings on the table. Vera Wang makes beautiful napkin rings that whisper simple elegance.

And as a bonus, because you're a Super Heroine and you do more in seven days than civilians do in eight, serve something delicious in a simple, footed serving bowl with curves as graceful as yours. The Century Footed Serving Bowl is $42.95 at Crate & Barrel.
