Fergie Falls Victim to the High-Waisted Trend
Filed under: Clothing, Jeans, Celebrities with Style, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes
Fergie recently appeared on MTV's TRL to promote her new single, 'Big Girls Don't Cry.' It all should have gone very smoothly, but -- oh, dear -- Fergie had to go and break my heart by wearing those ridiculous high-waisted pants. As if the strange length wasn't bad enough, they were a suspender/pant combo (which seems to be a trend for her). No need for the suspenders, Fergie, 'cause pants that high aren't going to fall any time soon.
So what do you all think of this latest celeb trend? I find that it's extremely unflattering on most figures and if Fergie can barely pull it off, what does that mean for the rest of us?

I totally agree with you - this trend is NOT cute. I recently wrote about this at http://www.collegefashion.net/summer-2007/the-high-waisted-debate/ .
Glad someone else feels the same way I do about the high-waisted uglyness. :)

I think she looks cute. She'd look cute in a potato sack anyway, but come on some of us can't wear the lowrider jeans. Not everyone is 21!

I don't get what's so sexy about exposed midriff bulge and tacky lower-back tatoos. Hip huggers do nothing to show off a woman's figure. The only practical thing about hip-huggers is that the exposed tatoo warns potential mates of their risk of contracting Hepatitis C. As many as 30% of those with cheap tatoos are carriers and they don't even know it. Wow, what a fashion statement! Might as well walk around with a needle sticking out of your arm and a sign saying "I may also carry HIV." How attractive. J. Woodson, R.N.

Well, at least we know even Fergie shops Goodwill, cause those are my grandpa's jeans that I donated.
PS. #3, a little deep for a fashion article, no?

WOooo to Jerrilynn Woodson... GET REAL. I have a tatto on my lower back in rememberance of a VERY good friend. Just because someone has a lower back tatto does NOT mean they have Hep C or HIV. GRow UP. You might have it since your so busy brandishing other women as having it.....
As for the high waist jeans. Those things look horrendous and make me think a flood is in the making.. And lordy they look so UNcomfortable!
Fergie hate to do this... STYLE FOUL!

Low rise ,"hip-huggers", do not look good on everyone, especially females with full hips but no butt. This is unfortunately one of those fashion trends that girls feel obligated to wear because of trend sake, regardless of how they really look on them.

#3 You are right!! I am an RN, too, and even in my super upscale area we are seeing hundreds of girls with Hepatitis C & tattoos. You are sadly right, too, that if the tattoo operator's practices let Hepatitis C pass along, HIV is entirely possible, too. And using disposable needles is NOT the only answer.

Jerrilynn, just so you know, not everyone with a " tacky lower back tattoo" has a disease. Either do your research, take a poll, or shut the hell up before you start talking about what other people have or do to their bodies.

No love handles, gut's not hanging out, no crack showing... What's the problem? Not all of us can wear low-riders. I think she looks great!

BTW - not everyone who wears low riders has a lower back tattoo or plumber's crack. I HATE highwaisted pants. For those of us with tiny waists and rounder bottoms, the lower rise pants are the only ones that are comfortable to sit in. Any pants I wear with more than a 7 inch rise pulls into my belly and sticks out in the back when I sit down - which ends up flashing the world my undies and giving me a terrible tummy ache.
Those look awful on everyone, and I'm glad it's not likely to catch on.

Thank you Fergie! Ridiculous low-rise needs to go and the sooner the better. I can count on one hand the number of women who have the body to wear low-rise or hip-hugger jeans. Bring on jean that fit and flatter.

I don,t like hip huggers on women it makes them look cheap, also it looks like they just took a CRAP and forgot to pull there pants up all the way

I actually like the high-waisted trend. Very 70's, cool retro :]

At least she looks like a lady. No matter what some women wear these days, there's always that know-it-all ready to pounce on them. I have never seen anyone who looked good, or decent, in low-rider oants. They all lokk trampy and low-class to me. Covering your body up can be sexier than showing it all. What's left to imagine ?

When I was growing up in the 60s and 70s, that was called a normal outfit. Please, get over yourselves.

The high waisted look is so much better than the "tons" of girls wearing hip huggers with flabs of fat falling over the waist line. Styles change constantly, it's just something that will take time to get used to.

For god's sake...
Okay, screw what other people are wearing, okay? You're complaining that everyone should wear low rise or high rise because this-and-this stereotype.
If one type works better on your body, fine. Don't come attacking every person who wears the type that doesn't work for you.
Bottom line, WE DON'T CARE.

I'm not a big Fergie fan, but i'd have to say she looks chic and elegant in this picture. I'm a high school teacher, and i can say that few high school girls can carry off the bare midriff look, much less anyone over 21.

I agree completely my 60 year old mother does'nt wear her pants that high. Pants that high and tight your just asking for YEAST issues. FYI pullum down and loosen up a bit.
