How to look as good as a celebrity in photos
Filed under: Celebrities with Style
Celebrities are constantly being photographed, yet, more often than not, they still look amazing. While this is obviously partially due to the fact that these people are absurdly attractive, they're also very good at posing for the cameras. To get tips on how Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, J.Lo and more make themselves more photogenic, check out this article in the UK's Sun Newspaper. Amongst the suggestions are great tips like putting your hands on your hips (a la Paris Hilton) to make your arms look trim and draw attention to your waist; crossing your ankles (a la Nicole Richie) to make your legs look longer; turning away and looking over your shoulder (a la Jenna Jameson) to draw attention to your sexy back (or backside); and the cheerleader kick -- pointing and turning out your toes for a longer-looking leg.
Now you know. Strike a pose, and you'll never have to look frumpy in photos again.

My comment would be that I wish you'd get rid of this comments section. I could care less what some of these nitwits think.

I enjoy watching the red carpet arrivals before any awards show.. However, the thing that can really ruin your evening is seeing an emeciated, skinny and bony celebrity walking the red carpet and posing, as if they looked good!! Sometimes a celeb will have a secret eating disorder and it is finally out in the open, once that celeb walks the red carpet with what else on? A backless dress, and everyone will come to the conclusion that this actress is either anorexic, bulemic or both. Remember Calista Flockhart and Mary Beth Olsen's backless dresses that accentuated their protrubing ribs??? How disgusting..

Oh boy. First off, they are no more attractive than the average person. They spend what most people make in a year on dermatologists, spa treatments, makeup, hair, and a stylist all for just ONE appearance on the red carpet. And that's not counting any prior cosmetic surgery. If we all could spend a small fortune every time we had a special event, we'd all look like that too. Then again, why the hell does the average person NEED to look like that? We aren't all celebs being watched by millions around the world. And have you seen what some of them look like without makeup. Nothing special. Secondly, I can't stand the way they pose. Once again, why does the everyday person need to pose like they're on the red carpet? It would look ridiculous, unless you were intentionally trying to look funny. When someone like Paris poses, they look stuck-up, superficial, and like they have a stick up their ass. I prefer a picture of someone in a spontaneous, not thought out pose.

To look more trim in a photo: Lean ever so slightly forward all the way from the ankles as your picture is being taken. It will feel silly while you are doing it, but wait and see - your tummy will look trim and flat in the pictures! Try it and see!

daveeggen: I agree that some of the comments leave a bit to be desired, and sometimes they get far off-topic, but if you don't care - why read the comments? Just read the article and go on. Or, for that matter, just skip the article.

"I could care less" means that you care a great deal, and that you could care less, but you don't. Thus, one of the previous commenters loves the nitwits here.

I had to laugh when I read the crossing of the legs bit. I have always thougt and have mentioned it on several occasions - that this pose always looks like the 'poser' needs to go pee in a hurry!

I am thankful for information like this and I will try each and every one of them, even yours cheedy. I always look fat in pictures, and I am far from fat. 5'9 130. Or at least I thought so. I look like Janet Reno in pictures (well my body) who's 6'5 and 250ish eeewwww..

It's amazing, but it is so very true. Women who have been heavy all their lives learn to carry themselves a certain way. By contrast, someone who is naturally thin, gets gains a significant amount of weight doesn't know how to move or hold their body, especially their faces. A truly classic case is Renee Zellwegger in the second Bridget Jones movie, The Edge of Reason. Unfortunately, in quite a few scenes, Renee did not look all that good because she was moving her face and body as the normally thin person that she was. Her British accent was perfect, but someone in Hollywood needs to come up with a way of coaching actors and actresses who go through major weight changes for movie roles.

1st of all, most women (that aren't in the spotlight) don't care enough to do anything about their looks. They would rather complain about their skin problems, their glandular conditions, big bones, ad nauseum...
Then, they have the nerve to complain that other women have lipo, lifts, implants etc. and therefore aren't "REAL." GET REAL... either get rid of your ugly features or get off the planet. YOU ARE WASTING SPACE!!!!!
Get of your fat behinds and do something for your self and your man/men... you'll be thankful!
I have a beautiful 59 year old wife that has a nicer shape than most twenties-something girls and it's all hers!!! She is beautiful and NO face lifts, implants, etc. she just TAKES CARE OF HERSELF!!! While also having raised two children and built a very successful career.
ONE MORE TIME... do something about it or shut up... you are wasting space!!!!!

I've noticed celebrities posing with their legs crossed - not just at the ankle but a more pronounced crossing, and it looks like they desperately need to use the ladies' room. I'm not sure what this pose it supposed to accomplish, but if it's anything than looking like a person needing to urinate, it's not working.

I say to look like a famous celebrity, drop your pants, slowly turn around and bend over while pointing your ass at the camera, slowly reach around with both hands and spread your ass cheeks apart so the camera can see your moist, hairy, pinkish brown balloon knot. Now, you're starting to look a liitle more like Lindsay, Brittney and Paris!! Yeah Baby!! Now you got it!!

For Zoe who commented at beginning of these comments...re spelling for one of the Olsen twins... The spelling is Mary-Kate Olsen...not Mary Kate Olsen...she uses a hyphen.

Harry, you know, whenever someone like you gets online, there should be an Amber Alert go off.
There is nothing in the world that has need for you... leave the planet.
Your type should be eliminated from the gene-pool.
You make really bad males look good! Maybe that's why you exist.
I can always hope that AIDS finds people like you. And based on your comments, if it hasn't... it will.
Sorry to the rest of the planet for enduring Harry.

To the young woman who is semi-famous and don't diss it until you try it? why don't we wait to see you on the red carpet? though you were quick with the Mary Kate comment so you are not a nitwit! If you are in a local band and long and not a stick good for you. I hope you make it. Have you ever been on the red carpet? it's hell! srutiny! But is it society's pressure or their own pressure? This is a condition that perpetuates through decades but "celebrated cases" are just that - those of celebrities. Eating disorders are usually about "control" the one thing that person believes they can manipulate. Go back to the tragic story of Karen Carpenter. I feel sorry for those who suffer but do not have the resources or get photographed and recognized before they perish by these awful diseases. The true heroes are not those who put these people down put help pick them up. Once given a hand up it's their call...just like the DUI's and all the other hoopla. If we buy it, read it, watch it, we're feeding fuel to the fire - even commenting here. Band girl I wish you luck there is nothing worse than almost famous...or semi-famous! It is better to be a has been then a never was...I spent years in the industry - it's cruel but you never let them know your private person although that is becoming hip these days...oh a bump is showing - speculation of pregnancy? oh skinny? what's the disorder? oh gastric bypass surgery for Star? like we didn't know that "medical intervention" Please.

Last comment (I know this will make Harry happy). But I do appreciate beauty and believe all women have it, even if they haven't discovered what is needed to feel it...
It is OK to ask the person taking the picture to kneel to take your picture... 90% of the time, a lower camera angle will be flattering (and yes, they do this on the red carpet)...
If you have a round face tilt your head slightly forward and 3/4 angle works best.
If you have a narrow face, tilt your head slightly back and any angle works (you're the lucky one). Profiles are good unless you don't like your nose...
And dear ladies... always avoid having your beautiful bottoms pointed the same direction as your face... it looks way too cheap (whore-like) and also says you'd rather someone admire your ass then your face...
As far as "crossing your legs" don't do it like you are protecting the hoo-haa, do it like you haven't made up your mind yet on when the next opening will be...
The arms are also important "aids:"
- more straight and slightly crossed in front (palms touching, for fuller figures,
- one arm crossed and holding the straight arm for thin or straight-waisted,
- hands on hips to create "space"
- and if you are very thin, more flamboyant, hands/arms more animated to suggest athletics...
- crossed behind will always accentuate a nice figure
Always remember to "feel" pretty... it comes out in the picture.
Be as pretty as you can, and work towards what you want to be... if it takes cosmetic procedures... do it. This is a one way ticket... enjoy the ride and the fact you're still on it.
Ignore Harry, he doesn't even know the ride is happening!!!
