The New It Treatment For Fall Hair

Despite our best efforts to make it last forever, summer is on the wane and fall is right around the corner, bringing with it the new black, the new IT bag, the new must-have items. But now that it's time to start thinking fall wardrobe, you might want to think of updating your hair, too. The best place to start? Try the Malibu Treatment. Administered by master hairstylist Djuna Citrin, the Malibu Treatment is a must have if you want to get your hair in tip top shape for fall.

"It's a professional treatment that removes all the product build up, residue, hard water minerals and anything else that can get deposited on your hair," says Citrin. "It's good to do it a few times a year to replenish your hair, but it's particularly great after summer because that's when your hair experiences the most damage courtesy of the sun, salt from ocean water, and chlorine from pools."

And Citrin would know. Having worked with hair for over 10 years, Citrin has teased the tresses of Jude Law, the cast of American Idol, worked on set for Pirates of the Caribbean, and more. Customers who sign up with her for a Malibu Treatment are in for an awesomely luxurious hair care experience. After assessing the damage to your hair, Citrin takes you to the shampoo station and gives you a good wash before saturating your hair with the Malibu Treatment.

A bag is placed over your hair to allow the treatment to properly penetrate while you sit under the dryer for 30 to 40 minutes, depending on your build up. Citrin checks in every five to ten minutes to ensure the heat is distributing properly. When the timer goes off, it's time to shampoo and condition, then either blow you out or apply color depending on your hair care needs.

"Doing the Malibu before a color process is fantastic," she notes. "It's helpful for highlights, and if you've had years and years of hair dying, the Malibu Treatment helps to freshen it up and get your shine back."

But what about in the in-between time, or if you don't live in L.A. and can't visit Citrin at her salon? Citrin suggests trying a professional clarifying shampoo like Davines' Solu shampoo, but warns, "It's not as concentrated so it doesn't work as quickly as the Malibu. But if you use a lot of product in your hair it's good to use once every other week."

So no matter what wide-legged pants do for your figure, you'll want to top off any hot new fall look with gorgeously shiny tresses... and considering you can get them after only 30 to 40 minutes, what have you got to lose? Count us in.

Djuna Citrin works at the Mathis Murphy Salon at 1221 Abbot Kinney Blvd. in Venice, CA. To make an appointment with her, call (310) 396 5600.
