Tim Gunn looks fabulous at the Baltimore Book Festival

Filed under: Style in the News, Men, Celebrities with Style, Books

Tim GunnTim Gunn of Project Runway fame attended the Baltimore Book Festival on Sunday to promote his new book and Bravo show, Tim Gunn's Guide to Style. I was lucky enough to be in attendance, grabbing a pretty good seat by sneaking in during the previous panel before the rest of the Gunn-crazy crowd. A good portion of the hour-long discussion was spent with Gunn dishing on some sweet Project Runway goodness, from both seasons past and the upcoming fourth cycle. Gunn also took questions from the audience members, several of whom asked about their own personal fashion problems, including troubles with finding petite sizes or the oh-so affectionately called "boot-ay".

Gunn reminded the audience that most clothes won't fit correctly off the rack. Only rarely does that ever happen, so be prepared to alter things for them to look the best on your body. The best part, though, was Gunn's talk about how it's important to accept everyone's personal needs and styles. For example, a beautiful dress that looks stunning on one woman may look completely different on another woman if she doesn't like it. Gunn gave the example of a woman he "bettered" (he didn't use "make-over") on an episode of Oprah. This particular woman raised horses and was in jeans all the time. The Oprah people insisted that this woman be put into a dress for the big make-over finale, but Gunn understood that this lady wasn't that kind of person because she looked miserable in every dress she put on. So instead of forcing her into something that wasn't right for her, he worked on the jeans aspect and replaced her faded, ill-fitting jeans with some dark-washed, sleek denims. It was such a lovely thing to hear, especially from a man that I already admire so much.

I was going to get a picture with him or get a book signed, but the line was absolutely insane. Instead, I awkwardly stood near him while he signed someone else's book and my friend snapped a photo. It sort of looks like Tim Gunn is popping out of my head. Awesome.
