The coolest ugly thing in your closet: Damp Rid

To complement Josh's great post about Feng Shui-ing your closet into organization, I have one very strong recommendation: start in the housewares aisle!

There among the vacuum cleaner bags and duct tape, you will find the fashion-protector's best friend, Damp Rid.

This science project type of product is a packet of salt crystals you hang in your closet and forget. A few weeks or a month later you will come across it while looking for that top with the criss-cross back, and be stunned to find that half the crystals have turned into water!

Relax, it's supposed to do that. The calcium chloride crystals pull moisture out of the air and collect it in a sealed pouch. When the pouch if full, you can safely pour it down the drain and hang up a new pouch of DampRid.

Now, you realize that most moisture in your closet is residual sweat, right? I know ewwwwww! But it is far better to deal with it and keep your closet from getting musty.

You can order a six pack on line for the bargain price of $32.99, or head down to your friendly local Ace hardware to pick up a single try it out. Either way, it's cheaper than going to the dry cleaners all the time, and a lot easier on your clothes.
