Barneys goes green with Loomstate

Filed under: Style in the News

Simon Doonan -- creative director of Barneys -- is prepping for a green takeover in '08.

Just a few months after he decked out his store's window displays with reindeer made from soda cans for Christmas, the author has brought the eco-friendly aesthetic inside his store.

Barneys has teamed up with Scott Hahn of Loomstate for what could possibly be one of the coolest recycling projects that we've heard of in a long while. Starting now, people can bring in their old t-shirts to Barney's -- and Scott Hahn of Loomstate will restore (i.e., beautify) them, so Barneys can then sell them as if they were brand new.

We know: "Why the hell would I want to buy back my own stuff?"

Well, it's highly unlikely that you'll receive your old (ish) and Loomstate is going to completely transform each tee: Clean, sort, dye, prin, etc. Plus, those who can bare to part with their old Nascar shirts will receive a 20% discount off their next Loomstate for Barneys Green and Men's Loomstate purchase.

Basically, it's an extremely upscale temporary version of Good Will.

Barneys will stop collecting shirts on the 27th of this month. So act quick!
