Ashlee Simpson's Wet Seal line lives up to low expectations

What were we expecting from Ashlee Simpson clothing line for Wet Seal? Not too much, to tell the truth. Though coming from humble style beginnings, the dark haired Simpson has turned into a fashionista in her right. But, she was designing for Wet Seal of all places, so from the very beginning the cards were stacked against her.

We have nothing against Wet Seal per say. As broke teens we probably even shopped there at one point. But the t-shirts that Ashlee designed for the clothing store look cheap, because, well, they are cheap.

They're also extremely Paris Hilton-like when you consider that Ashlee put her own face on 6 out of the 10 designs in the line. We just aren't down with that kind of extreme narcissism.

And the bright pink "cheetah top," actually brought tears to our eyes -- not tears of joy, mind you. No, we cried with extreme sadness that little girls around the world may accidentally think something like this is acceptable to wear out in public.

If Ashlee ever found herself in the position to work with a line that gave her the freedom to develop a more mature style, we might actually buy her as a designer. But this Wet Seal idea was just one giant fashion don't.
