Naomi Watts gets 'Angelic' for Thierry Mugler

Filed under: Style in the News, Fragrance, Celebrities with Style

Clearly it's not enough for Naomi Watts to be just an Oscar-nominated actress with a beautiful baby and a super-famous best friend. No, the King Kong and Funny Games star has designs on the modeling industry, too -- she has just been signed up as the first celebrity face of Thierry Mugler's Iconic Angel perfume.

Any eagle-eyed dress-watchers at the Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute Gala Benefit in New York last week will have spotted the suitably angelic appearance of Watts' dress... of course, it was a Mugler design. Crafty.

We think Angel is gorgeous, with its distinctive light, chocolate-y fragrance and iconic star-shaped bottle, so it's a good choice for the equally beautiful Watts. However, We've just finished reading Diablo Cody's book Candy Girl, in which she details her life as a sex worker in Minneapolis in the mid-noughties, and lets slip that Angel was the perfume of choice for strippers at the time. Clearly, they all had a well-developed sense of irony...

Back to the topic at hand, there's no word yet on when Naomi debuts as an Angel girl, but we do know that Dreamgirls director Bill Condon directed the TV spots and that Ali Mahdavi photographed the print campaign, so it's hard not to have high hopes. At the very least, it has to be better than the Baz Luhrmann-Nicole Kidman $5m disaster that was those cringe-worthy Chanel ads. (Ugh).
