So far Woody Allen's new movie, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, has been a huge success at Cannes. There was a ten minute standing ovation after the film's debut, and critics and fans alike have applauded the film's stars from the moment they stepped on the red carpet.

Well, some of the film's stars, anyway -- Penelope Cruz and Rebecca Hall got to enjoy the praise, but Scarlett Johansson didn't make the trip to Cannes this year because the studio wouldn't accommodate her requests.The studio was happy to pay for flights, hotels, and limos, as well as have designers show her gowns and provide hair and makeup folks for Scarlett's use. However, the hair and makeup team would also be working with ScarJo's co-stars, Cruz and Hall. And that was not acceptable to Miss Johannson.

Also unacceptable was the hotel the studio was willing to provide -- Johannson wanted to be placed at a hotel 25 or 30 miles away, which would inevitably have made her late for her appearances. The studio was only willing to provide a hotel with easy access to all the events the actress would be required to attend -- oh, the nerve!

ScarJo will be stumping for the film in America, and while there weren't many tears shed over her in Cannes, we're pretty sure everyone involved is glad she's going to do her part later. Also missing at Cannes was Javier Bardem but he missed for personal family reasons that presumably didn't have anything to do with being a diva.
