Tip of the day: Raccoon eyes be gone

Filed under: Skin Care, Style Tip of the Day

Ugh, waking up in the morning is a drag. Puffy under eyes and sometimes dark circles – ew! And the most common culprits probably aren't the ones you think they are. Let's take a look.

The area under the eye is packed with tiny capillaries making it extremely sensitive and susceptible. The area fills with fluid, especially during sleep, and the result is puff that often adds dark shadows.

Your probably thinking, "Ah it's because I have to stare at the computer for my job. Nothing I can do," or "Maybe I should start catching up on my Zzz's." You're thinking is wrong my friend. Though these can be causes, they aren't (thank goodness) the biggies.

The most common causes are:

• Nasal congestion

• Heredity

• Allergies

• Vitamin deficiency

• Poor adrenal glands

• Bad circulation

• Broken blood vessels

Here are some easy ways to get rid of the darkness so that the force may not be with you:

• Take a multi-vitamin daily and calcium and magnesium supplements. Magnesium also helps you sleep better. Score!

• Take allergy medication

• Eat less salt.

• Quit smoking, duh!

Rock rough n' stuff with your afro puff, not your eyes by:

• Splashing your face with cold water as soon as you wake up.

• Freezing two spoons for five and then put them on your eyes for five more.

• Refrigerating two teabags or cucumber slices over night and put them over your eyes for 15 minutes.

• Creams with plenty of vitamin C or K can work too.
