Yes WSJ, Michelle Obama *is* our new fashion darling

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

The Wall Street Journal finally discovered our fashion crush on Michelle Obama. And clearly we have plenty of company. Following her appearance on The View (another secret love) women across the nation are flocking to White House/Black Market to buy the $148 dress Michelle wore on the show.

Like us, we're sure Michelle prefers to have her assets listed in this order: smart, funny and pretty. And that's how we'd describe her. She's wicked smart, and successful, and we can totally imagine being office buddies with her.

Michelle would be the one we always make review our presentations, because we have a feeling she's good at fixing the charts and catching typos. Then we'd drag her to coffee to dish about the new girl, followed by a quick run to Shoe Pavillion to giggle at the latest Jessica Simpson white, vinyl, f-me heels. And we would believe her when she counseled us to invest in the Michael Kors black patent pumps because they will always be in fashion, but to wait until they go on sale.

See how real she seems? And that's her fashion secret. Michelle is one of us, buying and wearing the same kind of clothes we wear, to the office, to the recital, to a cookout. Her cute outfits are literally accessible, as in you can pick them up at the mall.

She has a great figure, but it's an attainable figure -- she clearly does a challenging arms circuit, and eats cake. Plus she knows how to maximize her assets and select items that are age and situation appropriate. And can we talk about her accessories? Fantastic. Striking, but not overdone. Perfect...on her.

In other words, she will never be the featured makeover on an episode of What Not To Wear, but Clinton and Stacy might use her as an example of a well constructed, flattering wardrobe.

We've heard some rumblings about "softening" Michelle's style, but we vote to keep her exactly the way she is: our First Lady of Fashion.
