The UK Olympians get a designer makeover

Uh, oh. It seems as though the American athletic stars may have to tap into their competitive spirit even before the last torch is lit this summer in Beijing.

As was mentioned earlier
, Ralph Lauren has been chosen to outfit the group of chiseled-bodied women and men representing the good 'ole US of A in two months.

Also, in celebration of the worldly contest, Anna Wintour proudly featured a number of summer Olympians in Vogue's April issue.

Not to be outdone by us, of course, the UK has enlisted the help of some of its finest home-bred design talents to whip up something that's equal parts chic and patriotic for a select few of its Olympians.

With the help of Team Visa, a support program for Olympic and Paralympic athletes, diver Tom Daley, long distance runner Mo Farah, gymnast Beth Tweddle and Paralympian equestrian Natasha Baker were paired with Vivienne Westwood, Savile Row tailor Richard James, Marchesa and Giles Deacon respectively for a high-fashion editorial spread lensed by Joe Lacey.

On the collaboration with gymnast Beth Tweddle, Marchesa's Georgina Chapman says, "This is a wonderful project and I am extremely excited to take part. It is truly a pleasure to be working with Beth and I am obliged to do all I can to show my support for Team Visa. Such strength and talent should always be applauded."
