The holy grail of sample sales: Christian Louboutin

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Accessories, Shoes, Steals and Deals

Stephanie Prommer is a writer, editor and stylist in the fashion and entertainment industry. She's on the scene at all the hot parties, bringing you the inside scoop on A-list style and gossip.

Much like the mythical unicorn, or all-you-can-eat sushi bars that don't make you sick, I didn't actually believe that the Christian Louboutin sample sale existed. Well, I'm happy to report that I was wrong. Last month, an innocuous little email popped into my inbox out of nowhere, reading something like this:

Although the email said not to forward it, of course the first thing I did was send it to everyone I'd ever met to let them in on the secret shoe stash. And trust me – I tried to RSVP all of my friends using the given email address, but they all bounced back. The system is too smart for common shoe whores like me.

The sale is held in the Louboutin's NYC showroom, and inside are gleaming silver racks loaded with shoes and bags from seasons past and present. There are color-coded signs everywhere denoting the price system - of course the newer and hotter the shoe, the more expensive it is - but overall, there really were some amazing deals. I picked up some shocking orange Lapono booties, as well as a sky-high pair of black Caracolo zipper pumps (and like five more pairs I'm conveniently forgetting to mention).

While I was shopping, I noted to the Louboutin ladies that I was happy my size (39.5) was still available, because usually the models snatch up all the good stuff before I even get there. To my surprise, one of them replied: "Well, that's because we didn't invite the models." Guess the invitee list is media and friends of the brand only, so perhaps you need to start sucking up to your writer friends now.
