Indie Designer Interviews: A Punkin Card Company

We love all of the amazing independent designers out there. In order to find out more about just what makes all of these creative types tick, we present to you an ongoing segment called Indie Designer Interviews.

Today's interview is with designer of A Punkin Card Company. Amie is originally from Louisiana, where she began as a historian with a focus on English studies. After realizing her dream of design and art, she opened her own stationery company in February 2007 and hasn't looked back. She is also the author of A Punkin Card Company Blog, a design and trend blog featuring artists from all over the indie world.

Tell us a little about yourself and your company. A Punkin Card Company is paper, stationery, and life. I started in February 2007 where the collection emerged as simple card creations to enhance one's life. Soon the collection rocked into the modern realm of bold colors and fun, retro patterns. A Punkin Card Company creates stationery to change lives, evoke style and stir creativity. All of A Punkin Card Company's products are printed and hand-assembled in the USA and all papers used my products are 30% Post Consumer Recycled.

How did you get started? I wanted to make my own wedding invitations. I bought supplies, cut, print, and glued. They rocked! I decided to have a small hobby making greeting cards and it bloomed from there. I haven't looked back. Each month is a little cooler then the last and I love every minute of it!

What inspires your work? Well, the morning sunshine! I know it might sound strange but the morning is when I am most creative. The sunshine, the birds chirping, and the dew on the grass. I could live in an unending morning montage!

Who are your favorite designers? I love, love, LOVE Earmark. Their designs are totally inspiring.

What are your top fashion & beauty must-haves? I must have fabrics. All styles and patterns. I would live in a house of pillows! Funky retro patterns mixed with soft vintage. Anything out of the ordinary.

Any advice you would give to aspiring designers? Try anything once. I never thought I would be running my own stationery business. I have a history degree and experience in banking & administrative work. I thought I would be behind a desk the rest of my life! I am living a dream. I make something I love, plus, I get paid to do it. Who wouldn't love that?

Where can people find your work? My shop: apunkincardcompany.etsy.com

Anything else? Live your life through you art. Never stop trying. I never thought I would be designing stationery that I love!
