Indie Designer Interviews: Missevilkitty

We love all of the amazing independent designers out there. In order to find out more about just what makes all of these creative types tick, we present to you an ongoing segment called Indie Designer Interviews.MissEvilkitty is the alter ego of one very eccentric young woman named Gabbie. This Modesto, California based designer has been offering up her modern-meets-vintage handmade jewelry and more since 2002 at MissEvilkitty.
Tell us a little about yourself and your work. I started to craft or noticed I liked crafting and making things at the age of five. I also found out right around that time that paper and glue can make some really cool stuff. At age eighteen I opened Missevilkitty.org and sold some of my goods on that site until 2005 when Missevilkitty moved to Missevilkitty.com. Missevilkitty showcases the modern vintage jewelry I make, and depending on the season it also has a few vegan lip balms and soap.
Any advice you would give to aspiring designers? Don't copy! be your own person. Follow your heart and advertise as much as you can without killing your bank account.
What inspires your work? Vintage beads and charms and my massive collection of vintage beads which is always growing. I started buying vintage German beads and my personal collection has grown to over 3,000. And music by dépêche mode and r.e.m, my two favorite bands.
Who are your favorite designers? Anna Sui and Betsy Johnson, as well as a local designer Armour Sans Anguish. I know the designer and she does some very cool stuff with vintage clothing and fabrics.What are your top fashion & beauty must-haves? My fashion/beauty must haves are a black cuff on both of my hands, my Emily Strange bag, black flip flops or converse and my hair in my messy bun.

Anything else? Missevilkitty was a nickname at one point but then I decided that it represents all the cats from my past, present and future. Especially one from my past named Snowy who was a black cat that had a thing for corn on the cob. I have a cat named Mofo .. like the cuss word!
