Shoes of the day: J. Crew Salina patent leather ballet flats

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Must Haves

While flipping through the August issue of British Vogue we came across an article where the writer (a self-proclaimed stiletto addict) reluctantly acknowledges that flats are currently having their moment under the fashion sun. She was forced to wear flats for six months due to a surgical procedure, and she basically admits that it wasn't that bad.

What? WHAT!

We love flats! In fact, we love them so much that we decided to to kick off (sorry!) our Shoes of the Day series by featuring this pair by J. Crew. These shoes are both practical and fun. They'll add an unexpected flash of color and playfulness to your outfit - whatever it is. They'll work with jeans and they'll work with a navy shirt dress. They can be worn by a preppy princess just as easily as by a punk chick. That's because flats are the great equalizers: They allow you to take fashion risks you probably wouldn't otherwise. While very few women can successfully wear yellow patent leather stilettos, these patent leather shoes (in yellow!) are essentially neutrals - because they're flats. In fact, flats need to be interesting or risk falling into the boring/frumpy category - so shop fearlessly!
