Indie Designer Interviews: Soap That Makes Scents

Soap That Makes ScentsWe love all of the amazing independent designers out there. In order to find out more about just what makes all of these creative types tick, we present to you an ongoing segment called Indie Designer Interviews.

Next time you're in the mood to indulge your senses, try a handcrafted bath bar or lip balm from today's featured indie business, Soap That Makes Scents. These delightful handmade artisan soaps are 100% vegetarian-friendly and paraben free, and they're easy on your wallet.

Tell us a little about yourself and your work. In 2001, I discovered a soap-making class in England, and decided to give it a try. I haven't looked back since--there's inspiration everywhere. Handmade soap is sooo much better than commercially produced soaps. For one, there's no harsh chemicals or fillers--another reason is handmade soap keeps it's glycerin because of this and ends up being more moisturizing and better for your skin all-around. Natural lip balms follow suit, using natural mica for color and no preservatives.

How did you get started selling your soaps? I started selling to friends and family and everyone raved over my stuff. A lot of people suggested I try selling it to a larger market, get into some stores, and really make a go at it as a business. If it weren't for them pushing me to take my soaping to the next level, I wouldn't be where I am today.

Any advice you would give to aspiring entrepreneurs? Promote like there's no tomorrow! No one will know about you or the great products you offer unless you tell them about it--and often.Soap That Makes Scents

What inspires your work? What really gets me going the most are scents...fragrances invoke memories and mindsets. Think about what the smell of sugar cookies fresh from the oven means to you, or the scent of coconut--perhaps it reminds you of your last tropical vacation. That's what I want to capture. I want to offer a slice of your life in every bar.

Who are your favorite bath & beauty companies? Lush makes AWESOME soaps. And all of their bars are handmade which I love---it shows that a huge corporation can still have that personal touch. Bath and Body Works has an amazing line of scents--sometimes I walk into one just to inhale deeply.

What are your top fashion & beauty must-haves? Handmade soap, of course!

Where can people find your work? Currently my shop is hosted at www.SoapThatMakesScents.com
