Flatter Your Figure - Finding your perfect jeans

Filed under: Clothing, Jeans, Flatter Your Figure

When you think of the different body types out there, and then consider the number of styles of jeans on the market, it's no wonder that finding the perfect pair of jeans for your specific body can be overwhelming, to say the least. And then, when you factor in not only fit, but also age and event appropriateness (a 30- or 40-year-old woman should probably wear a different style than a 16-year-old girl), it just gets more confusing.

Fortunately, Redbook did some dutiful denim research and found some jeans for everybody and every body. They found styles to flatter all kinds of figures, so whether your big booty needs a boost or your rear is a bit wider than you'd like, there's a jean for you.

Check out the gallery to see what kinds of jeans will work for your body type, but regardless of your shape, keep in mind the following rules:

Best Jeans for Your Booty

  • Flat Butt
  • Wide Butt
  • Bubble Butt
  • No Butt
  • Low Butt
  • Wear the proper length. If you find a pair of jeans you love, you might want to get them in a length that works with heels and get a second pair that works when wearing flats. The hem of your jeans should be just 1/4 inch of so off the ground in the back -- it shouldn't drag, but if it's much shorter, you'll look like you've outgrown your pants.
  • Be wary of tears. Distressed denim is really popular, but consider where you plan to wear your jeans before buying into this trend. Dark denim can be fairly professional and dressy, but the moment you add whiskering or rips, you ruin that effect.
  • Denim stretches, but not that much. If you're getting fitted jeans, you don't want to go up too far in size -- they'll stretch and be too big by the end of the day. But, at the same time, if they're really tight in the waist or thighs, chances are they're not going to loosen up enough to really be comfy. Find something that pretty much fits now.
