Indie Designer Interviews: Bsgper4

Bsgper4 earringsWe love all of the amazing independent designers out there. In order to find out more about just what makes all of these creative types tick, we present to you an ongoing segment called Indie Designer Interviews.

Today's interview is with the designer behind Bsgper4, a handmade jewelry line inspired by everything from petticoats and skeleton keys to the modern earth girl.

Tell us a little about yourself and your work.
My name is Bilan and I'm from Virginia Beach, VA. I moved to Philly in 2005 and unfortunately had to come back home to VB for a bit but it will NOT be permanent! :) Jewelry isn't my only medium, just the most recent. For me it's a hobby that I'm currently enjoying very much. I get a rush when finding materials and developing new pieces. Keeps me busy for now.

How did you get started as a designer? I'm not really sure how I started designing jewelry, I'm not even much of a jewelry wearer myself. My Mom out of the blue started taking up the hobby to give her something to do and at the same time I was fishing around Etsy. I don't recall what it was I was looking for but suddenly I was inspired to just create. Not really unlike anything else I come up with. I've been creating, recreating and dramatizing since I was little.

Bsgper4 earringsWhat inspires your work? Like I said I'm not a jewelry wearer so, I knew I had to make things that I would want to look at first and wear second. For me its Victorian inspired. I have a tendency to fall in love with anything purely based on aesthetics and sometimes modern and or vintage falls into my lap. Only thing left to do is create!

Who are your favorite designers? Designers of what? Jewelry: none. Clothing: none. I'm a jean and t-shirt kinda girl. Home interior: I'm currently taken away with Jeff Lewis and Ryan Brown from Flipping Out. In general I tend to gravitate towards things you wouldn't think are my "style". Never judge a book blah blah blah :)

What are your top fashion & beauty must-haves? Blistex and mascara, comfortable shoes

Any advice you would give to aspiring designers? Do what feels right. I could care less about following a trend, I need to do what whats right for me. Besides trends are trashy and disappear. Being stylish is another thing! :)
