Indie Designer Interviews: Wyred On Wire

Wyred On WireWe love all of the amazing independent designers out there and we wanted to find out more about what makes these creative types tick. If you do too, check out more of our Indie Designer Interviews.

Today's featured indie designer, Alicia of Wyred On Wire, creates one of a kind wire-wrapped jewelry, including this gorgeous necklace made from sterling silver and rose and cherry quartz.

Tell us a little about yourself and your work. My name is Alicia; I have an amazing fiance and two wonderful children. Designing jewelry has transpired from a hobby into a full time love for me. I work with any materials that spark imagination; however, most commonly you will find sterling silver in my designs.

How did you get started as a designer? Well if you want to go way back my grandparents gave me a beading set for a Christmas gift when I was eight. From that time on I saved all my allowances and bought all the jazzy jewelry kits and beads I could get my hands on. I started selling hemp jewelry when I was in High School, which was really popular at the time. Shortly after graduation I discovered wire and all the possibilities wire offered; the romance never wore off!

Any advice you would give to aspiring designers? It sounds kind of cliche but follow your heart... it seems that everyone is trying to tell you the way you are supposed to do things, they way it has to be done. Sometimes you can lose your self and your creativity if you wrap yourself up in what everyone else has to say.

What inspires your work? This is always a really hard question for me because really everything and nothing is my inspiration. Sometimes I am sleeping and will all of a sudden wake up with a design in my head. I may be walking down the street and see an outfit that I think "Oh this would look good with that," and I go home and make something to match it.

Who are your favorite designers? I really don't have any favorite designers, although I love small businesses and love to support indie when I can... It would be like asking me to chose a favorite color.

What are your top fashion & beauty must-haves? Must haves... I must have bronzer, lipgloss, mascara, earrings and a great pair of wedges.
