Indie Designer Interviews: Designs by Kim

We love all of the amazing independent designers out there and we wanted to find out more about what makes these creative types tick. If you do too, check out more of our Indie Designer Interviews.

Today's featured indie business is Designs by Kim. Kim has been creating handmade beaded jewelry and accessories for 18 years now, with designs ranging from classically simple to intricate and elegant.

Tell us a little about yourself and your work. I have been beading for about 18 years; it truly is my passion. I make beaded jewelry of all kinds and styles. I also bead gloves, bags, bugs & much more.

How did you get started as a designer? I was working in a rock shop (mineral store) and started getting into the stones. I started making jewelry trial & error with just stones at first, and now I make anything & everything that my heart desires.

What inspires your work? Colors, beads, people, emotion, nature, and just about everything around me.

Who are your favorite designers? I have many favorites, but my favorite bead designer is Lara Lutrick, she has a shop on etsy and makes fabulous beads. We get together and I buy of course many more then I actually need, because they are fantastic.

What are your top fashion & beauty must-haves? I must have black & brown pants, they go with everything, which leads me to my jewelry: I wear fall colors most of the time and have made myself many gorgeous pieces to go with my outfits.

Any advice you would give to aspiring designers? Do what you love, put a piece of yourself in what you make and enjoy it.

Where can people find your work? On Etsy - www.kimforbeads.etsy.com
