When it comes to investing in a pricey handbag, there are a couple schools of thought. Some believe the best option is to buy something really unique -- you might not use it all the time, but when you do, it'll really make a splash. And, since you're buying a quality piece, it'll last forever.The other option is to buy a bag that will work with just about anything, so that your cost per wear ends up being low. And, for subscribers to that school of thought, we present J.Crew's Large Oslo Bag, $425.

It's beautiful, it's simple, and it's neutral. And, because it doesn't have a bunch of trendy details, you can wear it every day this fall and again in five years -- it's not going to go out of style.

We're rather partial to the terra cotta color (shown), but, if you want to carry it into the spring and prefer something a little lighter, it's also available in lighter buttercup and champagne shades.
