Harem pants, say what? - Tip of the day

Filed under: Style Tip of the Day

Yes, like our favorite little Disney princess Jasmine or even MC Hammer, we too are now subjected to the fashion horror know as harem pants. Okay, okay, they aren't all that bad, if you can know how to wear them. Here are a few tips to make sure you look good in that pirate's booty.

• Obviously these look excellent on leggy silhouettes (what doesn't?) but those with wider waists can try it too since the cut is roomy. The right pair can actually be forgiving.

• Heels! Enough said.

• Keep jewelry to a one piece max.

• Defining the waistline is imperative to balance out the silhouette. If you are tucking in, pair it with a cropped jacket and make sure both the jacket's bottom and the pant's top align at your waist. If you are leaving untucked, still choose a top with a defined waist.

• Choose a fun, feminine piece that has lace or jewels attached. That way you forgo the costume vibe and you can skip jewelry all together.

• For fall/winter, pair these pants with tights and shoes of the same color. The monochromatic palette will elongate your legs.
