Up your panty ante - Tip of the day!

Filed under: Style Tip of the Day

Nearly every woman we know has wads of bras and panties jammed into their designated underwear drawer. It's time to get a fresh start and whittle down your underoo stash to the bare necessities. Here are some tips on purging your panty overload and the bras, panties, shapewear, and lingerie that every woman should have.

Bras

• Lace: A lace bra is a great way to play peekaboo from beneath a stark white button up or menswear top.

• T-shirt: A neutral, molded t-shirt bra will be your best friend every day. It should be comfortable and light enough to be worn beneath any daytime top.

• All in One: We've all seen Victoria's Secrets "100 Ways Bra" but have balked at the price tag. Many other companies are now making convertible bras that can do many jobs including backless, racerback, strapless and plunge. It's worth the splurge and a space saver too.

Panties

• Bikini or Briefs: Every girl should have at least one pair of granny panty type cover up to wear under dresses to prevent overexposure during a Marilyn Monroe moment. Whether or not you go with the boy short or brief is up to you.

• Boy shorts: Surprisingly, many men find boy shorts more appealing than thongs. For us, they are still sexy but also a more comfortable option than butt floss. Plus a low rise pair will help prevent panty peek.

• Thong: The ultimate visible panty line preventer.

Shapewear

• Tank: Right tank top helps so many troubling spots like arm pits, tummy, and saggy boobs. All hail Spanx!

• Thigh: There isn't anyone woman in the world over the age of 25 who doesn't have cellulite. But you can fool everyone by using an amazing thigh slimmer that helps prevent muffin top, dimpling, and tummy pooch among other things.

• Total Body: It looks like a fitted slip or body suit but it is so much more. An all over shaper is virtually like an all over tuck minus the surgery. It sucks, tucks and lifts in all the right places. Plus it is still perfectly acceptable to wear in place of your regular slip under satin or semi-sheer dresses.

Lingerie

• Camisoles and slips: These staples prevent unwanted nip slips or those embarrassing "she's revealing too much" moments, especially in this season's sheer tops. They also work wonderfully as layering pieces and can do double duty as a boudoir essential as well. Try a soft slip under an itchy wool dress or a blush camisole under your business suit and you'll never go back.

• Garters: A garter set complete with thigh high stockings and a sexy bra or corset is probably the best booty bet you're ever going to have. In fact, we guarantee it's a sure thing! Plus, you can use it in the way it was originally intended; to hold hose in place.

• Sexy Sets: Matching lace bra and panty sets are also a vital lingerie classic. Wear it to work beneath your usual officewear and feel empowered and then use it again later for playtime.

When you know it's time for that old bra to go.

Now that you know what you need to be sexy and seamless, you can chuck everything else.

• White is a very visible color. No matter how much you want to, you won't be able to wear a white bra invisibly with a white tee. If you haven't worn your white undergarments for some time, lose them for an option that is closer to your skin tone.

• If straps are stretched beyond help or the cups have taken on an odd shape, it is time to throw out your favorite bra.

• Although bright colors are cute, they are very unwearable. Instead, opt for neutrals like nude, black, gray, and navy.

• Make sure all of your bras fit correctly. Cups should lay flat with no gaps. Straps and the band should not dig or slide into the wrong position.

• If lace on lingerie is ripped, replace.

Now go get your sexy on!
