When the stars align Ella Poe appears

Filed under: Stores We Love, Interviews, Gift Guides, Must Haves

EllaPoeEllaPoe's designs are eye-catching, simple, and none come without a story. Lucky for us, we got to chat up the designer on what makes her cool Constellations collection so great. We hope you are as intrigued by this unique line as we are.

How did you come up with the idea to fuse your background of Eastern philosophy and fascination with stars into a jewelry line?

My father studied astrology in the 1970's and, as a result, it was a significant part of my upbringing. The Constellations just seemed like a natural choice for me, the evolution of an idea.

I feel it is essential that the jewelry reflects more than aesthetic beauty itself and that it is the point of view, the meaning, the depth and the message behind an object that is actually the thing which makes it striking and ultimately beautiful.

EllaPoe is known for its use of EcoGold and its helping hand in the Women for Women International organization. Why is so important to use recycled materials and how can our readers help?

EcoGold is essentially recycled gold. Jewelers must use extra gold when they cast pieces and often melt down unsuccessful pieces, or old jewelry, and we then take that and use it for our pieces. Gold mining is obviously harmful to the environment, and with recycled gold, we can basically eliminate the need for more mining.

Women for Women International is a fantastic organization because they support women in several different areas - the Congo, Afghanistan, Kosovo - to name a few. What they do is particularly helpful because they give women in these areas the tools to create their own business practices in order to be self-sustaining. We give a percentage of profit to the organization, so the more pieces we sell the more the organization receives. When we are involved in events, 50% (or more) of our profit.

What is on the EllaPoe horizon? Fill us in!

EllaPoe is most certainly branching out. Custom designs are always available and yes there are new lines and ideas in production, but I can't reveal all of our secrets yet. You'll have to wait and see...
