Michelle Gets $30,000 Ring as Thank You Gift From Barack - Rumor Mill

Filed under: Accessories, Celebrities with Style

The Giovanni Bosco ring that Barack supposedly ordered for MichelleSome of you are probably already thinking: after all the controversies along the campaign trail about extravagant shoes and outrageous clothing budgets, is it possible that the Obamas would turn around and do something that's so seemingly 'out of touch?' Well, anything is possible -- and you know that Michelle probably deserves a $30,000 Giovanni Bosco ring for putting up with her husband's nearly 2-year presidential campaign. But we kinda doubt it. And Team Obama is completely denying it.

According to reports, Italian luxury designer Giovanni Bosco's firm was contacted about producing a "Harmony" ring as a way to say 'thanks for putting up with me,' in time for Barack's January inauguration ceremony. The ring in question is made of the precious metal rhodium -- which goes for about $7,660 per ounce -- and is decked out in diamonds. For a total price that's somewhere in the ballpark of $30,000.

Is it a publicity stunt? It's hard to say exactly what is going on here. Is it that outlandish to think that Obama might have contacted a Giovanni Bosco rep to inquire about a gift? From a Giovanni Bosco representative quoted in the Daily Mail:
"Our agent in the United States was asked by Mr Barack Obama about the ring because he wants it as a thank you gift for his wife Michelle for her support the last two years... It is our top of the range piece and made from rhodium and encrusted with diamonds."
