The "I do" Wedding Band -- Jewelry that Speaks to Us

When "conceptual jeweler" Sakurako Shimizu came up with the idea to capture the beauty of the waveforms and engrave them on simple but elegant jewelry pieces, she probably had no idea that she had just come up with the most awesome trend in wedding jewelry ever. But she had. Shimizu makes her distinctive jewelry by recording sounds, isolating certain words -- as she did with her "I do" ring shown to the right -- and carefully cuts the waveform into rings, brooches, whatever. Genius.

Obviously, the big money here is in the wedding-themed jewelry, although her first Waveform Series installation wasn't geared towards the lucrative, yet usually cheese-ball, marriage industry. Some of her coolest pieces are sounds that aren't quite as sentimental: bells, yawns, giggles, etc.

Custom waveform jewelry has so much potential. It's not like you have to immortalize cliche dialog from your wedding ceremony. You could wear all sorts of other awesome cliches like: 'I'm with stupid' or 'life's a beach.'

  • Church Bell
  • Art Installation
  • Left Ear, Right Ear, Earrings
  • Giggles Necklace
  • 'Wow' Brooch

Our favorite happens to be the earrings that feature the waveforms of the words "left ear" and "right ear." Not that they necessarily look all that stunning, we just like Shimizu's sense of humor. We think she's going to become very rich if she can market this idea successfully.
