Jillian Lewis and Sewing Machines

With her FW '09 collection of outwear, knitwear, and ready-to-wear separates, Jillian Lewis makes a strong bid for the informal title of most successful Project Runway alumni. The beauty look, described by beauty key Wendy at Make Up For Ever, was for vintage with a modern feeling, a sad doll, inspired by vintage mannequins from the 1920s.

FALL 2009 FASHION WEEK - Models at Robert Geller

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Men, Fashion Week

Backstage, just moments before Robert Geller FW '09, we caught these models mugging with their serious faces on. This group represents the romantic elements mixed with elegance that his story has expanded to include. Some might say the guy this season is less nomadic and more refined.

Jillian Lewis - Hair

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Fashion Week

The hair look at Jillian Lewis was executed by Jeffrey Reitz, creative director Philip Pelusi Design Studio for the past 31 years. As shown above, the direction was for a slick front that moves into texture. And the effect is to create a sense that "anything can happen," Reitz explained.

Patrik Rzepski FW '09

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Fashion Week

Patrik Rzepski is one of the most interesting fashion designers today, drawing out the aesthetically beautiful elements from seemingly dark inspirations. His modern goth could never be confused for cheap or blatant. In this shot from FW '09 at Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, during New York Fashion Week, we see a simple, but theatrical drama being played out.

The Foundry - NY Fashion Week Gets Started

Our kick off show this season meant going out to Queens on the 7 train to The Foundry, for a group catwalk of independent designers. Hosted by Subdivision Boutique, the show was enjoyably informal and unpretentious. Shown above, the 2 level space is a stellar location with impressive brick and metal architecture. On the first level, each designer had space for a small trunk show.

3.1 Phillip Lim - NY Fashion Week Invitation

One of the cooler fashion week invitations this season comes courtesy of 3.1 Phillip Lim. We did a little Photoshop work to obscure the rsvp info (he's in the Bryant Park tents, part of the official Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week program). The notable detail work seen here is that the card stock was run through a sewing machine to create the red, ribbon-esque pattern. We think we can even make out marks left by the feed dogs. It's simple and elegant, exactly what we expect from Phillip Lim. Maybe red pops of color will be part of this season's motif?

Fashion Highlights From The Foundry

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Fashion Week

Death by Drone's illustrated dress, shown above, was our highlight from the Subdivision Boutique fashion show at The Foundry. The label's co-designers, Tiff and Deb, met in the dorms at Parsons and now operate their collection from a base in Brooklyn.

VPL Fashion Week Invitation Exquisite Corpse

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Fashion Week

VPL 09
Exquisite Corpse is a type of art exercise with several contributors who know nothing of each other's work. It's like folding a paper into thirds, with three people each drawing a head, torso or legs. The result usually is some alien or oddity. We used to play during study hall.

Band of Outsiders Fashion Week Invitation

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Fashion Week

The fashion week invite from Band of Outsiders and Boy is a digital image of mail. We love the line, show above, "You should totally come." Best idea we've heard all week. We'll totally be there, to the max extreme. Our soundtrack suggestion: "Return to Sender" by Elvis.
