Katy Perry's 'Waking Up in Vegas' - Simple Steps to Get Her Sin City Look

Celebrity makeup artist Jake Bailey, who did the makeup for Katy Perry's "Waking Up in Vegas" video, gives StyleList the simple steps for achieving this look at home. (Showgirl feathers optional.)

Because of the super tight shooting schedule, there wasn't a lot of time for makeup changes. I had to create different looks and there were many scenes to get through so I chose to focus on different lip colors. When you're using an intense pigment, choosing different lipstick shades is a great way to change-up your look in one simple step without having to change everything. I used intense, unique pigments to make each look special without wasting valuable time on set. – Jake Bailey, MAX Factor Celebrity Makeup Artist

How to Create Your Own Balmain-Style Jeans

Filed under: Clothing, Get the Look

Christophe Decarnin filled Balmain's spring '09 runway with models in jeans in various states of disrepair. Prices for the designer versions range from $1,900 (for a basic pair) to $4,400 (for an intricately embroidered, "very distressed" style). Inspired by their cool look, resourceful InStyle fashion assistant Katie Casamassimo took out her materials and tools (right) to make her own interpretation. Here's how:

Michelle Obama's Sneakers. Your Budget.

Even though a major debate ensued after the First Lady stepped out in $540 Lanvin low tops to volunteer at a food bank (right), fashionistas from both ends of the spectrum are still intrigued and inspired by Michelle Obama's style choices.

If the price tag for Michelle's designer metallic sneakers is a bit too high, check out this shimmery style by PF Flyers. The "Vere" retails for less than $90, so you'll even have enough money leftover to buy one of Obama's J.Crew cardigans. Heads up, the yellow version she's wearing in the picture is already sold out online. Not a big surprise. It was a week ago! But, we must say, we're loving it in lavender.

We can't get enough of the fashion smarts of First Lady Michelle Obama. And we have company! There's a new book coming out this week, Michelle Style, by Mandi Norwood, and it indulges our craving for all things related to Michelle's confident and accessible style.

The book is a retrospective of the outfits Michelle wore during the campaign and Inauguration, starting with several chapters organized around color -- which Michelle fans know she uses masterfully. Seeing the range of purple, orange and red outfits grouped together, you also get a great sense of how much she enjoys fashion, and how her fantastic confidence transforms simple styles into chic ensembles!

How To Score Sienna's Surprisingly Realistic Tan (and Hopefully a Matthew Williamson for H&M Dress)

Filed under: Cosmetics, Celebrities with Style, Get the Look, Beauty Tips

If you've ever been convinced that this life wasn't for you, that really, you should be lounging in Ibiza or Goa with drink in hand and floor pillow nearby, then I say run - don't walk - to your local H&M and pray you can still get your hands on pieces from the just-launched Matthew Williamson exotic capsule collection. And don't fret it the racks are totally depleted, his summer delivery hits stores on May 14th.

But dear God, if you are lucky enough to find one of his flow-y butterfly-print dresses, at least work a (faux) tan. Sienna Miller, Williamson's longtime muse, best exemplifies the kind of dusty, well-earned tan that goes so well with his clothing.

It suggests the sort of slow-and-steady, weeks-long bake that one gets if they have no real reason to get back indoors and under tacky, fluorescent office lights.

And makeup artist Ashley Ward, who works with Miller, told me how to get it.

The Celebrity Manicure - Get MINX-ed

Filed under: Get the Look, Beauty Tips

Gold MINX NailsAs a nail lacquer lover, I've been counting down the days to the arrival of spring to debut brightly colored fingertips.

But I refuse to endure another season of swapping out the same shades of red, pink and orange. BORING! In desperate need of a mani upgrade, I decided to get MINX'd. After reading about the mirror-like applique manicures -- which are a favorite among celebrities and socialites -- in Vogue, I decided I. Had.To. Have.It.

Luckily, New York writer, Huge Lips, Skinny Hips-creator, and soon-to-be-Stylelist blogger Karen Robinovitz was organizing a MINX'd nail party at her West Village apartment. There, I got the full scoop from nail extraordinaire Honey: MINX creator Janice Jordan grew frustrated with constantly chipped nails and developed a formula that's inspired by NASCAR decal technology. These metallic, film appliques give nails a sleek, mirror-finish -- sure to zoom pass French tips as the most requested look. And celebs like Blake Lively, Zoe Kravitz, and Beyonce (who flashed 'Gold Lightning' in her "Single Ladies" video) are riding this new wave in nail trends.

Scarlett Johansson in Vintage Givenchy - I Want That!

scarlett johansson

Scarlett Johansson (or should we say Reynolds?) looked every bit the bombshell in this stunning body-hugging, lace induced little black dress. While, in the beauty department, we think a little self tanner might've been a go on the leg area, we can't take our eyes off of her retro 'do and juicy red lips. Scarlett looks every bit the lady and you can too!

Lauren Conrad stepped out to support pal Nicole Richie at the Sony Cierge & the Richie-Madden Children's Foundation UNICEF Tap Project benefit in Los Angeles on March 23.
