Is there hair loss in his future? Photo: Getty Images

Years ago, women plugged their boyfriend's name into The Love Calculator to determine their relationship's chances of working out.

Now, women can take the next step and rely on The Baldness Calculator to determine his chances of going bald.

Simply answer 12 quick questions based on genetic information, and get his scalp's fate handed to you.

The tool is developed by the Dr. Wolff Group, a 100-year-old company that produces hair loss products Alpecin, Alcina, and Linola. Aside from one geographically limited question (the tool is geared toward UK users), anyone can use it.

French Women Don't Use Brushes

"Does anyone here even own a brush?"

I posed this question to my girlfriend a couple of weeks ago while chic-spotting in Paris. Whether we were riding the Metro or cheers-ing at the Plaza Athénée, every girl worth looking at appeared as if she hadn't seen a comb in days.

And yet they all looked painfully chic.

The look wasn't messy per se, but rather lived-in and piece-y, with little crinkles and imperfect edges, à la Lou Doillon, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and even a touch Audrey Tautou in her new Chanel No. 5 commercial.

Guest Beauty Blogger Wednesdays - Nadine Jolie on Spluging and Saving

Filed under: Hair Care, Skin Care

It's Guest Beauty Blogger Wednesday, and we've got Nadine Jolie, a former beauty editor who blogs at Jolie Nadine, and has authored the books Beauty Confidential and Confessions of a Beauty Addict.

One of the most frequent questions I get is: "What should I splurge on and how can I save?"

I think only with hair do you really get what you pay for. Splurge on a gorgeous cut and artful highlights and your hair will be easier to style, will grow out more evenly and you'll be more likely to love what you see in the mirror every morning.

Is this a hard and fast rule? No. You can get nice color from a box – although from-a-box highlights truly are dicey – and you can get a good cut from Susie Q at the local salon. The more complex the style and intricate the color, however, the more you'll benefit from a pro. If you have the same color God blessed you with, rarely blowdry your hair because it air dries perfectly, and haven't the foggiest why everybody moans about frizz and damage, then Supercuts and Feria away! For the rest of us – you know, us split-ended, monthly root-touch-up requiring, coarse-stranded, thick-haired gals with cowlicks? You'd better believe we'll see results from a great stylist. ("Great" means, say, $100 - $200 ... not $1000. We are not billionaires here, people.)

Now. As for pretty much everything else ... with the exception of powders (more on that below) ... more expensive does not equal better! Cleanser, face moisturizer/serum, nail polish, intensive conditioner ... you can find genuinely amazing buys for all at the drugstore! Below, my all-time favorites (all of which are currently carving out real estate in my bathroom).

Hairspray - Back with a Vengeance

Filed under: Hair Care, Beauty Tips

Dale Bozzio, frontwoman of 80s band Missing Persons, was such a tease! Photo by Ron Wolfson, WireImage.com

At one of those too-cool-for-school fashion parties the other night, this girl sashayed into the bathroom, shoved her way in front of the mirror, and started blasting her New Wave pompadour with a huge can of hairspray.

She looked at the rest of us (who were coughing and nearly blinded) and said, "I'm sorry, but it's the only thing that works."

And did it ever.

Despite this girl's penchant for expensive-looking gear, her must-have accessory was a cheapo can of TRESemmé TRES Two Extra Hold Hairspray, which she deemed the most critical component to her look. We watched in awe as the budget hairspray erected her avant-garde style. $4.49

Is Kim Kardashian Gettin' Wiggy With It?

Filed under: Hair Care, Celebrities with Style, Beauty Tips, Hair Cut and Style

As the days get brighter, so do the locks of your favorite celebrities.

In the past couple of weeks, both Jessica Alba and Halle Berry have spring-ified their dark 'do's with lighter highlights. So when we saw this recent photo of Kim Kardashian, we thought she was jumping on the blond bandwagon as well.

But, in her latest blog entry, Kim reveals that she punked us all. The curvy reality star writes, "It's a wig! Did I have you fooled? I did a fabulous photo shoot this weekend for Scott Barnes' book About Face. Chuckie Amos did the hair and transformed me with this blond wig and they put this hair piece on! I haven't taken it off since, because I'm really loving the look."

We love Kim's exotic beauty, and are happy to see that she's still a stunning brunette (In our opinion, there are enough cookie-cutter blonds in Hollywood). Here's hoping that Kim wasn't so wigged out by her temporary look that she decides to make it permanent.

Debra Messing Makes a Hair Comeback

Filed under: Hair Care, Celebrities with Style, Beauty Tips, Hair Cut and Style

debra messing at the cookie awardsDebra Messing has some of the most enviable locks in all of Hollywood, and she really tressed-up last night, with a straight, smooth 'do at Cookie magazine's 3rd Annual Smart Cookie Awards in New York.

First of all, she's a redhead -- a look that just about everyone and their mother is copying these days. And second of all, look at that sheen! We don't see hair so perfectly velvety like this on the red carpet every day -- the straight look really brings out her vibrant color.

This redemption comes in right in time for Ms. Messing, seeing as how she didn't fare so well at the Golden Globes where she was looking a bit fried -- not unlike yesterday's Johnny Depp frizzout, before copious amounts of gel got the situation under control.

Johnny Depp - Or is it Dep?

Filed under: Hair Care, Celebrities with Style, Beauty Tips, Hair Cut and Style

If there's anything we love, it's a man who knows his hair product. Add in dreamboat handsome and creative genius, and who do you have? Johnny Depp.

Depp is in steamy Puerto Rico filming a new flick called The Rum Diary, based on the novel by Hunter S. Thompson and set in the 1950s (above, left). His naturally thick and wavy hair was reacting to the humidity in a big, bad way, refusing to stay slicked back like the hair folks wanted.

According to Star Magazine, the on-set stylist was on the verge of a nervous breakdown ("Nothing could control his hair," said a source) when Johnny saved the day. He suggested a hairstyling blast from the past trick he learned from his 1990 film, Cry-Baby (above, right). A healthy dollop of Dep gel with a thick coating of Aqua Net hairspray on top. (You know, exactly what you used to score bangs like Paula Abdul in Opposites Attract ). After employing Johnny's secret styling sauce, the show could go on.

Speaking of frizz tips, we have a good friend who swears by Lubriderm when she has to tame steamy summer hair disasters. And we've heard Kiehl's Ultra Facial Moisturizer works wonders too. Share your secret hair control potions in the comments section in case there are more de-tress signals from The Rum Diary set.

C'mon
, do it for Johnny...

Major Buzz on Cameron's New Film

Filed under: Hair Care, Beauty Tips, Hair Cut and Style

If you're a pretty celeb, there's no better way to let The Man (or in some cases, The Academy) know that you mean businss than messing with your looks. For Charlize Theron, it meant gaining weight, but for others, it means shaving your head

In Cameron Diaz's upcoming film, My Sister's Keeper, her character shaves her head as an act of solidarity with her daughter, who suffers from leukemia. (In reality, Cam wears a skull cap for the film.) After watching the trailer, I was so annoyed with myself for thinking that she was pulling some I'm-a-serious-actress stunt here. I was literally in tears at my computer, the film looks so poignant. But wow, Cameron sure made me look.

Is Fergie Losing her Hair?

Filed under: Hair Care, Celebrities with Style, Beauty Tips

A rumor-plagued newlywed is nothing special in Hollywood. Many blushing brides fall victim to the standard is-she-or-isn't she pregnant, or are-they-or-aren't-they-happy variety, but the whispers about Fergie are unique. The buzz around Josh Duhamel's new Mrs. is that she's losing her hair. This recent shot of Fergalicious shows the singer with an unusually wide part and what looks like it could be the beginning of a bald patch at the crown of her head. The former Black Eyed Pea isn't in need of a wig quite yet, the problem does seem to be getting worse since she went brunette. While there are many possible reasons for Fergie's increased scalp exposure (too many dye jobs, extensions, genetics) Nunzio Saviano, senior stylist at Oscar Blandi, told Star magazine that "it mainly happens because of stress and dieting." As if brides to be didn't have enough to worry about, now fitting into your dress could cause you to lose your hair!

For a look at a fuller-locked Fergie, and the other brunette beauties in Hollywood, check out the gallery below.

Lady Gaga Brings Back Braids!

Filed under: Hair Care, Celebrities with Style, Beauty Tips, Hair Cut and Style

Perhaps it's the Heidi revolution?

Not one, not two, but three days in a row have we seen celebrities out wearing this hair style. Granted, Lady Gaga's take on the 'do is tad more "creative" -- in that conehead sort of way -- than Jessica Simpson's and Drew Barrymore's.

But still, we call 'em like we see 'em and right now it's official -- braids are back in.

Mow Your Lawn - The Schick Bikini Razor Commercials

Check out these two different commercials for the new Schick Quattro Trimstyle Razor & Bikini Trimmer. Thanks to the power of YouTube, the viral version, which was originally released in Europe, is causing a stir with American audiences. The TV Spot, which is equally edgy, just a little less "obvious" is showing in America and Europe.

A little background: The Trimstyle features a razor on one end, a trimmer on the other, and is geared towards the special needs of the bikini line. It's a first-of-its-kind product and needless to say, given the subject matter, there's lots opportunity for fun here, which the commercials certainly take advantage of ...

What do you think? Is the viral version way cooler, or does it border on inappropriate? And is the TV spot more glamorous, or a total snooze compared to the online version? Vote in our poll and leave a comment below.
